right back in mid 2009 i got may hands on a couple of derbi sendas both running like shit but was at the right price and came with loads off spares so snapped them up.
https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/11082009116.jpg

wen i got home other the next week i got 1 running and mot ready and took for mot it was passed only after changing a folk seal and this bike had not been used in over a year so not bad, any ways i after a few weeks of ridig round on a standard bike i got board an got me self a few mods bigger mk carb 21mm and mk exhaust so was happy with this for a few month's and then i started researching this bikes on net 2 notice only a few that were heavily moded if any in the uk so i set my self the task of 1 building a 1 off and 2 burning a very big hole in my wallet (LOL)

frist thing i did was jot down some ideas on what was wanted and the main things that came to me was ktm, off road, show bike, 33bhp (high but trust me)
as i new i wanted my bike to be a 1 off i new that i was gonna spend every weeks working penny on it and a lot of my free time doing this bike.

my main parts i wanted 2 add was 80cc big bore kit uprated crank
koyo bearings,1 off frame, powder coating mad and a few other bits and tweeks.

keep your eye out for more info as i get chance to blog it

you will need to change the clutch or atleast put stronger springs in it if you are geting a decent bore kit. it will just slip and burn out else.

If you get it to 33bhp at the wheel I will give you 10k, I doubt it will make half that,

Anything is possible. You could probably do it (with a lot of time, expertise and money), but it would be an awful bike to ride on the road and you'd have to change the piston every time you filled up with petrol Laughing

I've had a few Derbi's and you are right, no one does any decent one off's in the UK. Holland, France and Spain seems to be where the good ones are.

I've tried the Polini 80kit - I found it a bit flat to be honest. The Metrakit 70 kit is quick and high reving one - I thought that was better that the Polini.

The best cylinder in my opinion however is probably one of the Malossi ones - they are a bit more expensive tho. They do a balls out single ring race one - if you want to get anywhere near your 33bhp mark you'll need one of them, a decent pipe and a 28mm carb. You'll also probably have to do some porting. HOWEVER... your not going to get 33bhp.. if you get it up into the mid 20's you'll have done really well but don't expect it to last long.

I hope you do a decent job on this and make the UK proud. www.derbi-club.com died a while ago which was a shame. I'd have hosted and kept it running if I could have got hold of the old owner.
Probably the most extreme Derbi ever built was a guy called 'Spike' who managed to cram a CR500 motor into a 2001 style SM frame - unfortunatley it killed him (RIP).

It's quite funny timing you've posted this, I've also been working on an extreme derbi - I've got a 1998 Derbi senda bad boy with a 2001 SM swing arm and wheels and a KX80 motor which is about to get dropped into it but I wasn't going to make a project thread until it was done as it wind's me up when interesting projects are posted then fizzle out into the abis of the internet (Sond's VFR400 turbo project being the most irritating of the lot).

Anyway good luck and keep posting regularly!

[edit] Also, RE the clutch springs, most big bore kits will come with stiffer springs [/edit]

so here i am with all these crazy ideas in my i head and there is only 1 thing to put them in action and that is go rip bike apart lol so out 2 a cold shed at the start of winter to rip the standerd factory shit apart within around 2-3 hours engine was out and frame was striped aoff all componets but sadly forgot 2 take photo so will carry on so there i was with lots of parts i shorted a large box of part to take 2 imf darlo to be blasted and recoated black i took these 2 find i could have back in a week so mad me put my overalls on over that next week on night after work 2 prep frame for blasting and coating the flowing week.

so while doin some looking up i found a kid in the states had done similar and de-rear peged his bike has they are welded to fram i really liked this has it gave the frame a more off road feel so off i set with mr grinder 2 cut and smooth rear peg i had this done within a couple of days and ready 2 go for blasting and coating to keep the frame plan i went for black but a gloss insted of organal matt anf off i took my frame while was there i picked up my peaces i dropped of the week earlya this looked super and i was hoping frame would look as good
https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/19112009016.jpg
https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/19112009015.jpg

so while my frame was away i ordered new barrel kit 80cc polini 150 squid an lower end race kit with webbed and weighted crank koyo bearing ang all lower gaskets another 150 quid so while i waited for these 2 be delivered i riped old engine bear and took all componets 2 work 2 put in or wash of bay did this and they came up like new the day after i returned home from work 2 find a few parcales waiting they were all of the above while inspecting then i noticed the porting on barrel was twice as big as that on the crankcase so out came mr dremmal and i matched the ports and polished the crankcase and barrel

https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/03092009138.jpg
before
https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/04092009139.jpg
nearly done bits off ploshing left the finshed item was like a mirrow it was that polished

to be continued Very Happy Very Happy

right so next up was my 1 off exhaust, this was going to turn out bad or look the dogs. i always wanted to make an custom under seat exhaust so that i did cutting and welding pipe so it would join the expansion to the end can

https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009056.jpg
frist step was to cut hole thuoth rear inner gaurd for pipe to run up to the can

https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009060.jpg
tacking up first bend

https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009059.jpg
https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009058.jpg
https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009057.jpg
tacked to rear bend

https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009062.jpg
https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009063.jpgthen made a bracket for rear end can

https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009064.jpg
https://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/alexwuk1/derbi%20senda%20ktm%20rep/02122009065.jpg
wala tacked up and then welded up fully

i then took all parts to work and used our flexy dremal to power flow the expansion and the pipe i mad for maxium flow.
i then gave the expansion pipe 16 coats of vht clear and the center pipe and end can 10 coats in vht black, just left the crome end tip.

next came the wheels, i striped them down cheeked for buckals and sent of to imf darlo to have them powder coated orange. came back looking stunning and only cost 50 quid for the pair

Isn't your under seat plumbing going to melt your rear light and probably loose you a fair bit of power. 2 stroke exhaust systems are pretty exact things and length, width, angle etc are all precisely worked out to give optimized power output.

hi dave no rear light and inner mudguard are gonna be coated by heat foil as for performance a man in the states did simular and his performed better so it might be pick of the draw an that 1

This.

Plus you said you dremeled the exhaust for better gas flow yet I can see an awful straight cut in it at the rear shock which would do it no favours.
