I do it from the front, no probs...

i usually start with a small drill piece they use larger ones to make the holes bigger...

Put a plank of wood underneath the plate, then when you go through the plate you only hit wood, and it helps it, not to break. it helps if you have the protective film on when you drill through. Gives a nice clean hole.

you can use the old plate as a template by taping them back-to-back. Drill throught the holes and you have perfect spacings. This is assuming they are the same size.

Thats about it. Just take your time and it'll be ok.

Front, so the frays are facing the back and you have a clean hole at the front. Or go that step neater and put it on with adhesive pads.

from the front.
put some masking tape over it first, helps to prevent cracking, and a scrap of wood underneath.
Or just stick it.

I ended up using 'no nails' Confused cause my sticky velcro pads started to fail after a ride to newcastle, and that's all we had access to at his house.
It certainly hasn't come off !!! god knows how i'm gonna get it off if it breaks.

Either way, just make sure you drill very slowly to prevent cracking. I just drilled mine last week and went straight through it with a 6mm bit. I didn't use a pilot hole first.

Noooo do it from the back otherwise the yellow backing might be pulled away from the plastic.
The untidy bits'll be covered by the screws anyway.but if your really particular then file the untidy bits.

Dont listen to roo. Do it from the front with the wood behind it. It will be fine, the backing wont peel off.

i work part time halfords and i do them all the time.

Hate to pull rank or sound like a twat but I worked in a bike dealership for years we always did them from the back. I doesn't really make that much difference theirs just less chance of it ballsing up your shiny new plate. Plus you can mark your drill holes more clearly on the back of the plate. Thumbs Up

Laughing we are making it sound like its tough or something. Its a piece of piss, and if you mess it up, you'll either be very very very unluckey, or completely cak handed.

Personally i'd do it from the front, i have no reason to believe why it will mess up, as ive never messed one up.

All that has to be said, has said already been said in this post.

Safe.

halfords do some great number plate adhesive pads, 3 in a pack, you use them equally spaced along the plate. come in 1mm or 6mm thicknesses. Never had anyone complain, about plates falling off.

Superglue will makle a mess, velcro wont stick well...

why would you want to do that?

Don't buy the shitty Halfords things. You can get a roll of plate tape for mucho less.
And drilling from behind is always best Very Happy

i allways drill them from the front. this stops any unidyness showing on the front of the plate as and cracks or mangled bits of plastic are on the back

But which advice to use!

I must admit I have always gone from the front. But Roo is right that you have to be careful of not lifting the yellow off the back. You will end up with those horrible dirty black marks appearing round the drill holes.

I think if you press it hard on to an old piece of wood you should be okay. If not, spend another £6 and buy another one! Cool Then take it from behind! Cool

Do one hole front to back and one back to front in the name of research.
