Well having been on a rideout today with aload of BCFers, Was travelling to the meeting place and this stupid ikkle squirrel ran infront of my bike.

Unfortunatly I killed it, (I passed it on the way home too and it was flatter than a poppa-dum Laughing)

I'm just wondering what would you do? Swerve or Squash it? Razz

It also seems Karen and Helen weren't that pleased I killed a poor squirrel. Laughing

My excuse is that it was a grey squirrel and there classed as vermin. Razz.

Funny that I was thinking about that today. I reckon if it's something small then it's not worth swerving with all the risks that bring.

If it's something larger and likely to bring you down you could have a go at dodging it, depends where you are!

My dad was bought off his bicycle by a rabbit

I wouldn't hit it I could safely avoid it. If it was a case of me or him though, his ass would be grass!

What about 'swerve safely'?

I don't want roadkill in my mudguard.

When I came across the first rabbit in the way of my car, I attempted to move out the way, but it moved in the way again, so I swerved and it jumped right under my tyre Razz so from now on I don't change course or speed, unless it is something really big like a deer Razz

Another plus point about cars, small fluffy animals can't hurt you Mr. Green

Do a wheelie over the animal, drop the bike back down on two wheels and do a rolling stoppie, easy Razz

Can't believe you didn't have that as an option.

If you could have got past it then I'm sure swerving around it is the better option but I always remember what my driving instructor said "Don't swerve to avoid daft critters running across the road 'cos those f*ckers don't pay any accident excess!"

Basically if you swerve & hit another car or something that's overtaking you then guess who has to fork out on their insurance? Confused

I'd try and avoid it as I don't want it wrapped around my front wheel.
If it was him or me, the 'cat will get him. Wink

I couldn't....I just couldn't! If I could stop or swerve, thats what I would do, and it would be an automatic reaction too as Shaun has already seen Laughing (the squirrel lived Dance!). I know that braking for an animal is not good but I know its something I wouldn't be able to control so I guess I would have to face the consequences after! Confused

It's hard to say really, if i could swerve safely i would, but if it was him or me, it would most defintely be him, i would'nt go out of my way to kill him though.

Like Helen says, I think it would be my natural reaction to try to avoid it, but I hope that I would have time to weigh up my options first! I would be more worried about the effect that running over an animal would do to me on my poor bike!

Saw a headless squirrel en route today....nice!!!

I was once on a stretch of twisty road where I love to cane it to silly speed when I came up behind a car. I was looking to make the overtake and accelerate away hard when he suddenly started to brake. I thought to myself "what the feck are you doing? At this point I saw the deer standing in the middle of the road, just after a slight bend. Another lucky escape for me! If the car hadn't been there I would have been travelling a lot quicker at that moment and I doubt I would have missed it.

Try to avoid it, but if it's not possible then squash it as walking in roads is a very very steep learning curve and it won't be doing it again. I'd rather end up hurting it for it being daft enough to be in the road to start with then end up hurting myself.

I have a deer run out in front of me and tried to swerve to miss Bambi and it didn't work. Tarmac is your friend, Bambi is your enemy. Laughing

Sometimes you can only hope to hit the throttle and get past them before the intercept you... happened with me and a sheep many years ago (in the car). If I'd hit the brakes I'd have splattered the sheep front on, I floored it and got to the point where the sheep ran into the side of the car instead... I felt the thump then looked in the mirror to see it standing looking a bit dazed.

I saved a cat that had been hit by a car when on nights a couple of weeks ago. It was out cold, lying in the middle of the lane. I parked my car so that it wouldn't be run over but expected it to be dead. I nudged it with my foot and it moved slightly and after 5 minutes it regained consiousness and ran away.

Do all the girls love me now?
