Just noticed my summons says the offense was committed at 11.20am on the 16th of the 10th 09

Well I was at work at that time Ah ha, I was pulled over in the PM.

Problem is court tomorrow at 12 and I don't have a lawyer what do I plea.

(No insurance is the charge)

Can you get proof that you were in work at the time?

Cloned plates etc... Is the copper that pulled you actually in court with you?

I'm not sure if the same applies to off-bailers as to custodies (cells supervisor, so I only deal with the hotel customers!), but if it's your first appearance you may well be able to request the Duty solicitor to represent you? Might be worth asking when you show up at the reception, anyway.

They get an alowance for typo type mistakes, so if a copper put "a" instead of "p" the courts might not be bothered.

Play it smart, don't acknowledge that the cop made a typo, just point out that you couldn't have been pulled at that time because you were at work.

As in:
"So the report says you were stopped by Officer Plod at 11.20am on the blah bla of month."

"Why that's impossible, I was at work at that time, my employer can confirm that."

"Well, could it be possible that you were pulled over later in the day."

"I know for sure that I couldn't have been pulled over at 11.20am on that date."

You are in court for an offence at that date and time, you don't have to incriminate yourself by saying "Lolz, it was 11.20 PM not AM, stoopid copper. Can I be letz off nao?"

Iirc he said there was a discrepancy in the small print that meant he was riding/driving without insurance, he wasn't aware that he was.
