I'm buying a supermoto and i quite like the look of leathers, the bike will be used as an out and out hoon tool for weekends.

Would you say textiles or leathers would be better for normal dry summer weather?

I know a sports jacket and jeans are a common preference however something doesnt beat the look of leathers for me.

Furthermore, sports boots or MX style?

Cheers. Thom.

Leathers everytime, if its an out and out hooner then my preference would be a 1 piece (safe as it gets really). Id go sport boots too if it going to be ridden mainly on the road Thumbs Up

I'd agree with you, however my Dad made a good point (which also changed his mind); how horrible is it being in a jacket which is wet (however you aren't wet under it). Its nice when you take you jacket off yes, but when you come to put it back on and its still wet/damp and smells because it always getting wet. His answer was a leather jacket and then just a waterproof over jacket (like over trousers). It doesn't absorb water so it is quicker to try, less chance of smelling.

However by the sounds of it the OP is basing his choice purely on looks... so yes leather wins. My friends who don't own bikes always ask if I have leathers and I always disappoint by saying I wear a textile jacket. Rolling Eyes

i would go for a textile jacket every time,
and kevlar jeans, and sidi courier style adventure boots

i have a leather jacket, and while it looks pretty cool, its no where near as practicall, and if they get wet they are pretty much useless

i must admit it is mostly aesthetic i base this choice on however this is mostly because i consider textiles and leathers to be as safe as each other on road. on track the high speeds would dictate leathers as the neccesary option.

I currently own both sports textiles and touring, as well as leathers which is why im wondering which is generally used more or is considered to look better. yes i am a bit of a tart, but hey, some of us who cant ride fast need to look good going slow Mr. Green

Does wet leather offer less in the way of protection than dry or am i missing something? Confused

not particularly I wouldnt of thought but if leathers get wet (very wet) they get heavy and uncomfortable. Not too bad in spring/summer showers but get caught in some real heavy stuff and its a bit of a shitter.
As I only use bike for 'playtime' generally I tend to wear my leathers. I also have textile 2 piece but its too hot for summer as lining is non removable and it doesnt zip together, so I fear if I ever come off id end up with those nasty burns you see halfway up my back and down the back of my arse etc Sick

I would say a strong pair of underpants with a reinforced gusset should suffice. Don't get Y fronts though as in the event of a crash your balls can come out through the hole and make unprotected contact with the road surface.

yeah but only when its really soaked, it softens the leather, and then its not as abrasive resistant,
it would still be more than good enough in a crash, but riding in wet leather is just evil, it smells as well, and requires quite a bit of work to keep them waterproof Very Happy

Leathers on the sunny dry days ( and for trackdays been as they are compulsary).

Textiles in the winter/rain.
