Her peripheral vision looks completely unobstructed. Rolling Eyes

How about we ban people from driving in poncey thick-legged glasses like I've got? If I look sideways without moving my head all I can see is frame and hinge.

in the 1960's nuns were made to remove their head-dress for driving as it obstructed the peripheral vision........

A nun's wimple doesn't look like it would restrict vision either. Maybe they used to be a bit more obtrusive? Or maybe it was a stupid rule set by someone who had never actually tried driving in a wimple.

The veil the muslim lady is wearing in the clip seems to be very 'flush' against her face, unless she can actually roll her eyes all they way round until she's looking into her own brain, I really can't see it being significantly restrictive. Thick framed specs really *are* gonna be worse than that. What about emo hair? One-eyed drivers?

We all seem to manage with crash helmets. You just move your head about a bit more. I'll credit the muslims / nuns / speccies / emos and cyclopses with the same intelligence and consider them all just as unlikely to bother looking round the A pillar as anyone else.

Hi,
The law is :- The minimum field of vision for safe driving is defined as “a field of at least 120° on the horizontal
However there are exceptions for exisiting drivers to apply for an exception.
The defect must have been
• present for at least 12 months
• caused by an isolated event or a non-progressive condition and
• there must be no other condition or pathology present which is regarded as progressive and likely to be affecting the visual fields.

120° is not that much and I would say she has way moe than the legal minimum.

You are making a fuss about nothing.

Regards
Charlotte

In the 50's and 60's when my Grandfather was a driving examiner the Nuns Wimple was larger and did cause some issues while driving, although the modern ones do not.
Thumbs Up

I'm more concerned by a driving instructor demonstrating her dry steering ability.

Aye I was thinking that, couldn't believe it when I realised she was actually an instructor.
I initially read the title as "Driving with the evil". Embarassed
I was most bemused.

I watched the program last night and the standards of tuition did raise an eyebrow.
It is interesting for me though.
I have taught people with language issues, it can be fun and very hard work. I have taught, in the past, a Polish guy who couldn;t speak any English, had to use an interpreter in the back seat for all the lessons. Now that was hard work.

"Dry steering"? Is that turning the wheel without moving the car? I was told that was a failure when I was learning to drive.

Yes, and it is a failure as it can wreck the steering rack, pump and tyres.

I think the law is totally screwed up you can drive with a veil so how is the speed camera meant to recognise you? Very Happy also how come you can drive with a veil and they say your vision isn't impaired, yet sit outside a bank with a balacalava on and the engine running police soon wanna pull you over. effing coppers Rolling Eyes

In the same way that a speed camera is meant to recognise a motorcyclist who has their head and face covered by their helmet. Anyway, speed cameras aren't meant to recognise the driver, they're meant to take a picture of the number plate and it's then down to the registered keeper to say who was driving the vehicle at that time. And, as a gatso takes a picture of the back of the vehicle, it's quite irrelevant if the drivers face is covered by a veil.

Go on, try doing that wearing a veil and see what happens.

It might be worth noting that bank robbers tend not to sit in their car outside the bank, they usually go into the bank and rob it whilst one person stays with the car. Rolling Eyes

Is it actually illegal to drive your car with you bike helmet on ??? Surely you've got more vision in your helmet than with a veil ??

Why would it be? People in open top kit cars or racing cars wear helmets on the road so that'd be a no.

I agree, she has unobstructed peripheral vision, whereas me wearing glasses rather than contacts have blurry peripheral vision, and I have to turn my head to be looking throught the lense to see things.

Appalling. Is their religion more important than risking a child or several life around a school?

Dude, read the whole thread. Her vision really isn't obstructed. Wearing my helmet obstructs my vision more than hers is.

Not turning this into a topic on veils but do they not suffer vitamin D deficiency?

Only if they don't get it in their diet. The skin produces vitamin D if we are exposed to sunlight, but we're fine without sun if we just absorb it normally from fish or eggs.

I'm required by law to wear a motorcycle helmet that significantly restricts my peripheral vision.

If you don't believe me. Try riding without one and see the difference.

I'd be more worried about the size of the A-pillars on some cars these days. You can loose an artic in the blind spot they create on the approach to a roundabout.

I wonder how many more accidents they have caused by being thicker and blocking your view compared to injuries they have prevented by preventing the roof collapsing in the case of a rollover. Cars don't land on their roof all that often.

Indeed. I can't remember the width they are allowed to go to. 8cms or something stupid.

Volvo concept.

Stop trying to be reasonable. You know full well that you should be banned merely for being a woman.
Here's a Public Improvement film that proves it. Know your limits woman!
