Newbie bike help

Hi,
I'm Phil and completely new to biking.
I will be taking my cbt in manchester when the snow and ice clears and am looking for some advice.
I had a google and couldn't find an answer to this I only have enough money to buy 1 bike and was wondering if i could buy a larger bike say, 600cc and get it restricted or do i have to get a 125cc?

CBT restricts you to about 11 horse power AND and a maximum engine size of 125cc, so sorry but you'll have to stick with a smaller bike until you do your bike test Thumbs Up

Welcome Phil,

How old are you? If you're over 21, probably worth doing your full licence and just ride a 125 for 6 months, get used to riding and the road, then when you feel more comfortable, take a couple of refreshers on a 500 and look at the bigger bikes

I took my CBT and stayed on a 125 for 2 years, then went onto DAS and got myself a 600.

Wouldn't recommend you go straight onto a bigger machine being a new biker, you need to learn the skills to handle a larger machine by starting off small then working your way up.

If you're not old enough you'll need to take the CBT and you'll be limited to a 125cc, but this is still fun and a great way to learn riding

Hi,
I'm 41 so will look for a really cheap 125 as i haven't even ridden a pushbike for 30 years and really don't want to do the DAS until i have had at least a few months experience

Good choice, 125 for a few months, get the experience up a bit, then think about the bigger bikes Thumbs Up

Is there much difference in riding a 50cc scooter compared with a 125 for practice apart from going slower?
the reason I am asking is someone at work is selling one for £100 it is in 'loved condition' but works ok.
