Does anybody watch the wrestling show TNA? and what do you think of the idea of them following in the foot steps of WCW and taking on the might of WWE? about 12yrs ago WCW tried to take on Vince McMahon and the WWE brand and lost, the Monday Night Wars as they were known changed the american wrestling scene forever, Now TNA Wrestling is trying the same to become the number 1 wrestling show the world over, I like the american wrestling I find it great entertainment and have watched it since I was a kid, I do however feel that TNA is making a mistake and would hate to see it succumb to the same fate as WCW which was brought by TITAN SPORTS (the parent company of WWE) and was promptly shut down. I wish TNA luck as it is the brand I follow but feel going up against McMahon and WWE will be the biggest mistake they ever make and could possibly mean the beginning of the end for TNA.
What do the rest of you think?

I think they are making a massive mistake by bringing Hulk Hogan in and letting him bring in all the old rubbish like Scott Hall and X Pac. As much as I like TNA, I can't bring myself to watch it any more, which is a shame as I really like the knock out division.

Will your opinion about it being gay stop me from watching it? No.

Anyway lostboy, I think they will win really. Whatever way your swing it WWE is absolutely awful!

The biggest wrestlers they have are half injured 40+ year old fellas who are WAY past their prime.

Recently they have brought in Bret Hart and Jesse Ventura to try and boost ratings figures and to be honest, that's scrapping the bottom of the barrel if you ask me.

Seamus is the WWE Champion, of all people, Seamus???? Also did you happen to see the crowd reaction when he won the Battle Royal to become the No.1 contender? NO ONE in that building cheered or even looked remotely interested or entertained.

In short WWE is a lame dying horse.

TNA on the other hand have the talent and the growing audience to be something BIG. Unlike WWE all their money isn't poured into toys and crap movies. They bring in new wrestlers and try and develop strong story lines. They put on decent quality PPV events every month and do good quality tours of the world.

I don't believe Hulk Hogan coming back is a good idea, in fact I think it is dreadful BUT people will always follow the big name and the fact he has done so many TV shows and put the name out there is a MASSIVE thing for such a small company.

+1 here

Its all just a set routine ballet dance with big blokes instead of petite women. i dont get where the entertainment factor is.

You wanna watch some proper UFC fights and see what really happens when a guy lands a real punch. it can get real bloody real fast.

The crappy World of Sport/WWF 'pro' wrestling is just pointless and dreadful.
'Proper' (amateur) wrestling is one of the toughest and most demanding sports in the world, of ever.

UFC is boring. It's a 20 minute build up for a fight that is over after a punch half the time.

Wrestling is the greatest pantomime on earth, and it is one of the only programmes I sit down with the kids and watch that we all enjoy together, so as long as its going I will keep watching,
I must confess bringing Hogan in is a big scoop for TNA, however the bigger scoop for them has to be Eric Bischoff the guy is a genius, they also got Vince Russo doing what he does best writing the storylines. Bischoff and Russo beat WWE in the ratings for 87wks Shocked in the WCW days, I'm hoping Dixie Carter has the balls to keep the company going when the going gets tough, WWE has become a tired old horse but Vince McMahon is no fool he survived the 1st time round, and although the WWE brand has become tired McMahon will eventually up his game, and when that happens Wrestling should become exciting again. As both brands will up their game.
The other thing TNA have done is bring in Ric Flair which now means they have 3 of the greatest wrestling legends ever Flair, Hogan and Sting. The return of Bischoff, Hall, X-pac, Flair, Hogan and Sting sat in the rafters smacks of the WCW glory days but as great as they were I'm hoping TNA can get past this
On a side-note I went with my kids to watch the TNA Impact Tour 2009 at Birmingham's N.I.A. I paid for us to meet the wrestlers which was an autograph signing session and a quick chat with each wrestler individually, the kids loved it (as did I Embarassed Laughing ) and after meeting them my son was so stunned he didn't speak for 2 days Laughing , they put on a great show too with their top talent in both the autograph session and in the ring Very Happy Sting sadly not on the tour though Sad , the tickets were cheaper to watch and meet them than the WWE cheap seats.
The problem I have is the lack of merchandising such as action figures and toys my son would love to have and I would love to be able to get the stuff from this country.
My greatest fear for TNA though is that it may decide to become a little more like WWE and move from a an easily accessible sky channel and move into the obscurity of Sky sports, which I refuse to pay an extortionate fee for just for the sake of watching WWE and with a fee of £15 per ppv WWE milks its fan base.

just a quick question about UFC Isn't Brock Lesner one of their great champs? hasten to add an ex WWE wrestler.

Also wasn't Bill Goldberg refused a spot on UFC and MMA when he tried to join as a fighter in both sports?

You imply wrestlers can't punch I would disagree on this point, I'd happily put a wrestler up against a UFC fighter anyday, one last thing though if the said wrestlers are pussy's as you imply how many barbed/razor wire ring matches and people going through tables from 40ft up have their been in UFC?

Those people who like wrestling... are you as retarded as an American? If you are, then fuck off to America. Thumbs Up

Lots of MMA fighters have done stints in pro-wrestling - i would imagine it pays quite well for them and is a nice easy gig(that is in comparison with having someone actually trying to beat the crap out of them)
I hope you're not inferring that it is their pro-wrestling gimmicks that make them good MMA fighters, as opposed to vice versa? That would just be silly.

Think about what you've written there. Go on. Seriously.
If you were about 8, it might be forgiveable, but for an adult....it's inexcusable.

Brock Lesner STARTED in WWE now he dominates UFC end of.
As an adult I am aware that wrestling is staged but I am also aware that when a guy of 6ft 10 and built like a house hits you its gonna hurt whether you are a normal person or a professional fighter, so I stick by my statement.
Wrestlers may not fight in the real sense of the word but alot have a fighting background, as for having it easy wrestlers still suffer injuries some severe and do a job your average bloke in the street cannot do. The thread was started for the wrestling fans and not a my dad's bigger than your dad argument, as far as I am concerned the stars of their chosen sports/ industry deserve the respect they receive from their fans, And whilst some of you have chosen to take the piss out of wrestling and its fans its entertainment and we fans who do watch it like it for the entertainment value, however if your bag is watching 2 blokes beat each other to a pulp then enjoy.

I was waiting for the usual "YEAH BUT IT'S LIKE WELL FAKE, YOUZ STUPID OR WHAT MANZ?" comment.

Seriously, when the hell did I or lostboy imply that we thought wrestling was real? I am not a moron, I know that grown men can not with stand a physical beating and keep on going. I am also aware that punches, moves and chair shots are done in a way which means no harm comes to the victim.

I have grown up around wrestling, my Dad was an avid fan and even took it up as a hobby for a while, therefore it is bound to be something I enjoy if I have been encouraged to sit down and watch it from a very young age.

If people in this thread don't like it, then it's your choice. Personal opinion is the one thing you can't change, so why people constantly try and imply I am an idiot for enjoying it is beyond me.

You see wrestling is fake yes, but so is TV, films and video games. You never hear anyone going "YEAH BUT YOUR WELL STUPID, THE A-TEAM ISN'T REAL!". So why do you always feel the need to attempt to belittle people who enjoy wrestling??

At the end of the day, it's entertainment. I enjoy the storylines, the showman ship and the general stupid antics that happen during a show.

Yes I admire them for what they do. I'd hazard I guess that the majority of the people posting in this thread would be unable to last 10 minutes in a wrestling ring whether it is fake or not.

As lostboy explained people do get injured. It's not a simple case of punches. In a lot of cases it is very easy to get something wrong and people have died, broken necks and other bones during the process.
