The 'blood' was bought in a bottle from a joke shop. Photographer has used it in other shoots and it looked realistic.
Maybe the weather, snow, cold affected it? It was snowing really heavily that day

Interesting take on the geisha theme—if the world's oldest profession is in need of anything, it's katanas as standard. Not overly fussed about the kimono, tho it would look better on the older/fatter ones than day-glo PVC I suppose.
