Okay i went away recently and my bike was in the shed for a week and a few days. Come back to see some rust on my chain, only like surface rust, not in the pins or anything and its still moving, well lubed up etc. My question is will it be okay ?
I only had a new chain not long ago.
Is there anything i can soak my chain in to rid it of the rust?
Someone said soak it in coke . .
I dont like wire brushing

Give it a scrub with paraffin, use an old toothbrush if you don't want to use a wire brush, then keep the chain nicely oiled form then on.

Should be fine, every chain I've ver ran has gotten a bit rusty if left for any amount of time. Though that probably reflects more on me as a custodian of bikes !
Anyhow they sould recover if the rust is just surface stuff that you can wipe off with a rag and not much effort. A water repellent oil such as GT85 from a spray can is excellent for cleaning muck and old lubricant from the chain without the need for removing the chain from the bike (which you would need to do if soaking in a bowl of petrol) but NEVER ride the bike without lubricating the chain again after a thorough clean such as this as the chain may seize and / or stretch - water repellent oil will NOT stay on the chain for long.

What you use on it will depend on what you personally find convenient and user friendly - spray oils save time but can be hard finding a good one for particular chains. Brushing old engine oil on to chain is reliable but takes longer and is potentially messy if you are impatient - but spraying can be as well - springs and windabouts !

Paraffin isn't a chain lube - it's just good for cleaning your chain with. I use old engine oil or chainsaw oil to actually lube my chains.
