I had a cracking day yesterday, managed to get hold of a 2004 Z750 and 2003 ZX6R for 3 hours:

But I don't know which one to buy!

The Z750 was fun, within 5 minutes I had the bike sussed, easy to ride, a lot of torque throughout the gears and not a bad looker. Everything I wanted to to the bike could do, fast or slow. Thing is, it wasn't crazy, I was looking forward to the ZX6R...

I get on the ZX6R and feel the difference straight away, coming out of the dealer there's a dip and the stiff suspension makes my nuts slap against the tank Embarassed ! So I'm uncomfortable but have that strage grin, there's a little devil sitting on my shoulder (in this case the devil is Kawasaki green, not red) telling me to go faster and race anything on wheels. I was glad to get off it after an hour, for the sake of my licence. I was wearing the grin all afternoon..

Both were great but for very different reasons, how the hell do i go about making a decision between the two? Each bike seemed to highlight the floors of the other.

Anybody have any opinions of naked vs. sports?

Anyone made the change from 'super' sports to naked and regretted it?

Insurance wise there isn't much in it, Z750 is one group down, ZX6R is one group up from what I'm on at the mo.

What are you going to be doing with it mostly?

Is it just for fun, or purpose?

I need to to be practical - I'll be using it to commute fairly regularly

So, the Z750 right?

Thing, if I just get a work horse, I'm worried i'll get bored of it...I also need some fun!!!

The Z750 is probably my favourite naked bike. (well the z1000). But the ZX6R is definetely the one I'd pick because sports bikes are my thing. I had a go on the latter yesterday for the first time and I loved it. It was sooo comfortable compared to the GSXR400. Could have rode around forever on that without getting sore. Only thing I didn't like was the fact I felt too far away from the ground. Saying that, most bikes will be about the same. My bike is really low down.

Well.

The zx6 isn't exactly impractical, but as with any sportsbike it's not as good a commuter as other bike are - they get hot easily and their turning circle is crap.

Rob got rid of his R6 and got a Speed Triple instead, he's loving it, and his commute is apparently easier cos he can manouvre through traffic easier.

How about a compromise. The z1000. Very Happy

Naaah, really, go with what your heart's telling you to buy. Which, I get the impression, is the 6.

I'd go for the Z750, not only will it be cheaper to insure, it will be cheaper to service too and it's newer.

Plus I prefer the naked "roadster" bike to sports bikes really.

Just my opinion of course!

i reckon stick with the Z750, as naked is the way to go these days. True faired are fun, but only after about 150mph odd. My naked bike makes 40 feel naughty, which is useful for the old license.

One question tho, how much motorway time do you usually have? And how much wind protection does that lil' headlight screen give? I think you can see where im going with this cant you. Altho its a myth that wind blast is just from the air travel. Sometimes i can do 90 on my bike without even feeling the wind, other times my helmet is actually about 2 inches higher then it should be and crushing my nose. So i imagine its more cross winds how exposed the area is.

Another question is do you want trackdays? As im sure the 6 would be better for them, and i personally love the ninja 636 you are contemplating, but i know nakeds are more fun on road as they dont cocoon you from the speed so to speak, however on track, i think you want something to tuck behind.

And lastly, go with what is cheaper, both to service and buy. Cos think about it, the zx6r might be a lovely bike, but add an hour onto every job to take the fairing off. At least. Plus the cost if you drop it....
And just think of all the mods you could put on the z for that Wink

you did look like you liked it; the grin you had on your face was probably similar to the grin byke95 said he had.. like this: Very Happy

first instinct for me is to say the zx6r (funnily enough). But I know that the 2000 model which I have is a bit more comfy than the 2003 model which you tried, the 2003 model is more racily styled (if that's a word) so not *quite* as comfy.

So my heart says the zx6r, but my sensible head says the z750. You do say you will mainly use it to commute... hehe as I write this my heart is overruling me and saying the zx6r!

When I look for bikes I think the more impractical the better. All I want it for is performance really. Everyone has their own needs. I'd still buy a sports bike if I was commuting though. The new ZX6R might be one to think about then even though it's not as cool looking. Thinking

Basically the only motorway time I have is the trip from the top of the M3 to the bottom one or twice a month (to see the girlfriend). The screen on the Z750 is a bit pants, but after market screens are available that make a big improvement (so the salesman told me)

I've never done a track day, I would love to though. If I could have the best of both worlds I'd make my current ZX6R a track bike and get the Z750 for everything else. However, i'll be needing the money from one to get the other...

I do like the idea of mods, there's so much room for personalization on the Z750, if I got the ZX6R them I guess all my spare cash would go on keeping in tip top!
