Does anyone know where i can buy some indoor gates, like toddler gates, to section off dogs from certain parts of the house.
Ideally i need the gates to be a bit taller than the typical toddler fences and it`d be good if they were metal too because the dogs are a powerful and agile breed that could rip toddler fences off with ease if they wanted to.


...another thing i`m looking for is something i can put around the legs of tables and chairs in the kitchen, either some sort of spray that actually deters dogs, or some sort of chew resistant material that i can wrap around, or stick on, to stop the dogs chomping on the wood.


...and one final thing.
Does anyone know where i can get really cheap budget lino from.Not bothered about fancy patterns and stuff, i just need something practical that i can lay over a carpet or straight onto a concrete floor to stop dog pee and poop soaking into the floor during the puppy training phase.
When i was young my mum got some clear see-through budget lino that she put down in her extension over the carpet and it came in a roll so you could cut it to size yourself.That stuff would be perfect but i cant seem to find it anywhere.All the lino ive seen on websites is fancy patterns and quite expensive (between £6 and £15 per sq/m) and thats more than i want to pay really.

Or if anyone knows of any other cheap flooring options that are waterproof or water repellant ....please tell me about them and where to find etc.

If you're anywhere near Brum I have a baby gate you can have for nowt to get you started while you find some that suit?

Also, when it comes to deterring them, best to do it with you there. A bottle of water with a spray attachment (set to 'jet') is very effective when combined with a command like 'leave it' If you're not going to be there to do that, then leaving them chew treats/rubber bones as an alternative to chewing on furniture.

Dog used to chew corner of wall. Dad made a really paste out garlic, ginger and some other strong flavours (if I was home I'd find out what it was). He found a paste in a pet store which was meant to stop dogs chewing on stuff, read what was in it and decided it was loads of money for what it was and made his own.

The dog stopped chewing the wall after this.

She hasn't really chewed anything in her life other than a couple of tennis balls she found in the garden. IMO I think squeaky toys encourage dogs to chew things because they get that satisfying squeak.

I speak from experience for when I say if a dog wants something. If he wants it so much, he will have it/eat it/chew it.

Hopefully the things people have suggested will work but my chocolate labrodour Barney was a pain when we first got him. It's teaching them not to do certains things early.

For your floor, how about carpet protector. The stuff carpet fitters use on building sites to protect newly laid carpets from muddy work boots.
Its heavy duty, waterproof and I imagine fairly cheap as its designed to be layed throughout a building then disposed of when the building is handed over. It comes in large sheet that are taped together at the seems.

Or, you could make some of your own from two bits of wood strip, to put on the frame about half an inch from the jam and cut a piece of board to slide down into the gap, obviously make it so you can still step over it...

My Grandad used to do the same round his house for me when I was a toddler as I was a lairy fucker then who wouldn't keep still...

thanks for the replies lads, i went over to petsathome in oldham this morning and grabbed some bargains in the sale.

Got a cracking metal gate for about £40 that should be ok for the first 9-12 months, might need to put another one in the top half of the door frame after that though because i`m sure these fuckers will easily be able to jump the lower gate in a few months time.

Will be house training them as i go along but still need something for the chair and table legs because there`ll be times when we`re both at work and they`ll be unsupervised.
I could lock them in the extension behind the gate so they cant get at the furniture, i suppose, but i want to leave it open really so they get more room to have a run around-n-stuff.

Thanks for the tip about making a stinky spice paste as a deterrent, i think i`ll try that idea.Black pepper,ginger,lime juice,garam masala and some washing up liquid should be pretty nasty. Might stick some other stuff in it too if i can think of anything else
Ive already got loads of squeaky toys,balls,ropes, and teething chews so hopefully that should keep them occupied, if theyre not happy enough with each others company.
If they decide to start on the furniture legs i reckon they`ll be in for a bit of a shock now

will check out the link about the disposable flooring too, i could be onto a winner with that if its thick enough to hold a puddle of water/wee.
