It has been reported that UKIP plans to ban the wearing of the burka and the niqab if it gains power. Are they standing up for British values and also defending Muslim women against oppression or are they just trying to appeal to bigoted little Englanders?

They're trying to divert the vote of "bigoted little Englanders" away from the [censored] to ensure that Brown get's back into power to screw this place up a little more, or maybe a lot more.

The only things I have issues with regarding the Burka or the Nigab, are that they are to me rude, I feel like I'm being accused of being a sex pest and the males who accompany the women wearing them don't avert their eys when my partner is around.
I know some of the women want to wear them and some don't, but they're just rude.

I think they should be allowed.....

I quite enjoy my right to go around in a balaclava if and when I choose to.....

To deny people the right to wear their headress is the same step closer to banning me wearing a balaclava....

FFS people its just fucking clothes....

I don't see why it is an issue, I like being covered up....

Often I will be wearing a hat an a scarf wrapped round my whole head as to only show my eyes, would this be banned too or only exclusively religious dress?

What are they going to do if it does get worn? 30 quid FPN? Prison?

This issue arises when you go into banks, police stations, pubs, airports, shops, petrol stations. I'm sure that you would be in most requested to remove or leave some, ordered to remove and perhaps even arrested ( just in case).
Imagine going to court/police station/driving test/bank wearing full Paramilitary gear and a balaclava showing only your eyes and mouth. I doubt you would be treated too well.
As a fashion garment, as that is what they really are, I find them rude, you can wear one if you want, but don't expect any good manners back from me.

I'd be quite happy to ban raffles.
The person, not the event.

Nothing against tombolas.

As a general rule, it is perfectly acceptable to wear a balaclava/face mask etc. There are, however, certain instances where you may be arrested if you refuse to remove it for a police officer.
During my days as a fox hunt sab, we would all dress in identical DPMs and balaclavas - this made us practically unidentifiable:
So, can you describe the person involved sir?
Yes, medium height, medium build, wearing camo gear and a balaclava.

<copper turns to look at 20 people who fit that description>

Riiiiiiight.

Yeah I've been wearing a balaclava for a years, and got shit for it as well.....

Even with a legit reason to be wearing it, I've got grief before from wearing them...

I was out cycling one day in the middle of a freezing winters day when I was about 13, under which circumstances I'm sure a bala is "justified".... I had some car pull alongside in the middle of town, throw refuse (empty coke bottles and the like) at me and shout "Oi paki fuck off back to Iraq" before speeding off.....

With vehicles its a bit more touchy as it gives them an excuse to search vehicles (reasonable suspicion etc) and then find something to get all anal about like a dodgy brake light etc..... I'll happily wear a balaclava out on the street thought without a problem.

Would you treat a person with a hat and a scarf wrapped up to only show the eyes with the same suspicion/stigma as a balaclava wearer?

If they did bring in a ban it would have to be something general like "you must not cover your face in pulbic places" which is a bit too much police-state for my liking.

Just when I was actually warming to UKIP's policies (Enjoying Nigel Farage's tirades against the EU - and seeing UKIP politicians slam the "Global Warming/Climate Change scam") they come out with something like this. Neutral

I want to live in a free country, where so long as no-one is actively harming or exploiting anyone they're allowed to do as they like.

People should be allowed to wear whatever they like. End of.
