Hi

You used to be able to (I brought my H100 down from Liverpool to Winchester on a train many years ago), but not sure you can anymore.

All the best

nope only in Europe and those services are dying pretty quick!

One way to do it is to look on ride shares , now and again you get vans going back and forth.

I'd have to say, that would be bloody awesome. But no, you can't. You take your push bike on a train, not your motorbike. Very Happy

You could probably get one of these on a train without too much problem:

When I was a lad in the 80s it was possible, so long as you didn't have fuel in the tank.

I did it (1987) with plenty of fuel in the tank. Rode to a station, trained down south and then rode from the station.

All the best

i was thinking about this a few months back, it would be pretty awsome if we could. I imagine the only problems (with smaller bikes) would just be the smell of petrol (and the mess of many oil leaks if its my bike Laughing ) with the weight being no heavier than a really fat person so that wouldn't be an issue.

Imagine if someone did it late at night when no-one was on and just rode up and down the carriages Laughing, would deffo like to see that.
Shame it cant be done any more Sad

I bet you anything that you could assemble a small task force of about 10 mechanically minded friends, all get a ticket and bring one major part of the bike with you (I doubt anyone would be stopped), and then assemble it in the carriage as quickly as possible Laughing

Would be hilarious to be seen riding out on the platform at your destination.

Check out www.railsavers.com (although I suspect it may only be for Europe)

I researched this about 6 months ago in quite some detail as my girlfriend hates long distance slogs (I'm not the biggest fan) and as a child she went on an overnight motorail from London to Glasgow, so I thought I would see whether we could do similar with the bike and then tour the North West Highlands without the slog in between.

As it was the Scottish Motorail shut in the mid-late 90's and the last motorail in the UK (London to Cornwall) packed up in I think 2003. Gutted! Crying or Very sad

People use fold up bikes to achieve this.

Folding bikes are gay.

It's a race to get a pushbike on a train. When you're on the platform you need to identify anyone else who is going to be trying to take a bike on the same train as you. You've got to get on the train before they do, then when there isn't space for their bike you get to listen to a small amount of their "i was here first" rant before the guard tells them to wait for the next train. Very Happy

With practice you'll know exactly where the bike loading points are at stations you use, you'll get to know what times traveling is easier on the routes you use, and you'll get to know which stations don't check tickets when letting cyclists through the barriers. Combine them all together and you've got a fairly easy journey that's completely free. Wink

Fold up bikes are designed to fit on trains. They are sadly not designed for riding.
