DVLA vehicle inspection

what do they do to inspect it?
Ive just got a letter in the post saying i need to have an inspection on my R6 before they will give me a v5.
I still have both frames.

Only time I have had it happen was when registering an imported bike. They litterally too under a minute to look at it.

Is it a 2nd hand frame and you are trying to get your log book updated with that frame number?

yeah, the breakers gave me a frame and i filled out the vin number bit on the v5 and sent that off as well as telling them its now yellow instead of orange.

Sounds like a vehicle identification check (VIC). All they want to do is make sure enough of the vehicle that carries the original regstration mark is still there for ID purposes, in order to retain the original registration number. All they usually do is check VIN/frame/engine numbers.

Suspect they might get a bit dodgy then. My understanding is that the registration is linked to the chassis number. Changing the chassis / chassis number means you are changing the bikes identity and open yourself up to having a Q plate.

Lets hope not. Because i just bought a new numberplate.

The lady who just phoned me about it said im ok to ride it for now as long as its taxed and motd.
I guess ill find out.

So this was why the last owner of my GSX bought a frame with a V5.

IIRC the reg goes with the frame if you are doing a rebuild. If you are keeping all the rest of the bike, but changing the frame then the whole bike is more than the part frame so stays the same reg, but with frame from one, engine from another, electrics from a third etc, the reg will be either Q plated or for the frame.
If it is Q plated you still have the option to get an age related personal plates.

i thought the procedure was you use all of the details that come with the frame you are using i.e. the replacement frames reg number. so you would get the reg of that and not a Q plate even if it was ONLY the frame you changed and the rest of the bike is still the old one.

seems ok to me as long as the replacement frame checks out ok i.e. has a non Q plate and is not on the hpi register.

I had to go to one of these too, as Kickstart said - they literally took a minute to look at it and that was it, off i went.
