My honda CBR 400 has unfortunately spent the winter outside as i've had nowhere else to put it, only just started riding it daily again within the past week and i've noticed a funny smell coming from either the radiator or just behind it.
Water level is fine as is everything else as far as i'm aware.
Any ideas people??

Cheers

Small pinhole leak spraying back onto a hot engine and giving a coolant smell perhaps?

That seems like the answer that makes most sense, i'm gonna have to check it out.

Hopefully i wont find a half-charred animal down there. Or a pikey....

After further inspection.....I think i need a new radiator.

I took the bike out for a little spin earlier and when i parked up i noticed a small amount of smoke coming from the radiator + a wet looking patch on the radiator itself.

Am i right in thinking that i need a new radiator??

Are you saying you think your current radiator is leaking? It might be possible to fix without having to replace it. If it were leaking though it would explain steam (not "smoke" Confused) and maybe the smell is what the inside of your radiator smells like. Got any pics?

yeah i would say that it's leaking. I've only had the bike a few months and to be honest i don't know loads about Water-cooling systems. How would you fix the leak?

Will try and take a few pictures but i'm not too sure how well they will come out.

Cheers

Could be a tired coolant hose, start off simple then look at bigger things mate.
My scooter wouldnt start or run propperly and i thought it was my electrics, was only the plug, then my light wasnt working propperly so again i thought electrics, but it was just the 2 prongs not making propper contact with the bulb. Thumbs Up
