Sometime last year I had this taken from me.
https://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n243/MacKaliba/1395ftupthebeacon.jpg
It's a GT Jamie Bestwick Pro which I must have bought when I was about 15 to replace a bike that I became disinterested in after
snapping the handle bars doing a dirt jump (over a fire Cool).
The story goes, I was using it to get back and forth from college (on the train because I preferred riding to walking),
Probably in the period around when my RVF was in the workshop and I was without the license.

On one of my more rushed mornings I somehow forgot to pack my lock and so had to leave it unchained for the day,
Which was fine outside of college... But not at the Connexions office at lunch.
I left the bike on the other side of the glass double doors which is where I waited and watched it for the first five minutes.
Like a numpty though I let it out of my sight, 5 minutes later, business sorted and out I go.. oh, no bike. Confused
To cut a long story short I spent the next 3/4 hour stomping around Worcester ready to go ape shit but to no avail,
Eventually making a detailed stolen report to the police, who were fuck all help.

It was an expensive and hard loss, a bike that I had rode for nigh four years,
I loved it and used to have a massive passion for riding it as I now do for motorbikes.. I think in all I probably pumped about £700 through that bike.

Well this morning I got to college at the usual early hour and at about 8:20am I received a text from my good mate,
Asking if I was about, as he believed he had seen my bike.
Just as I sent the reply I turned around from my locker and in he walked, "right, shall we go see if this is it then?".
Off we went, into the high street and to my amazement it had been locked to a bench right next to the local HMV,
Now if the scrote had left it here, how dumb could you be?

I walked up and recognised the frame immediately,
there were patches of the original colour where stickers I had on it covered from the sunlight.
It still had the Gold anodised Primo pedals that I put on, the Snafu handle bars, the latest grips that I replaced,
The Shadow Conspiracy seat post with Gold anodised rail clamps...
Not my shadow conspiracy seat unfourtunatly, this and the chain adjusters had been replaced with GT items,
Presumably in a half arsed attempt to make it look original. Rolling Eyes

An unequivocally positive ID. We returned to college and nabbed some bolt croppers,
5 minutes later I'm walking down Worcester high street with a big red pair of said croppers, broad daylight..
Students, morning starters and shop workers walking to and from, I went straight up to my bike and cut through the cable like a hot knife through butter!
Job jobbed and not a challenge, not a peep from one passer by.

I've had a smile on my face all day, it would have been great fun to loiter about and see who turned up..
Unfourtunatly I daren't be late for PEO as I'd of been on the hack saw for certain.

But whether it would have been the cunt who originally made off on it or some poor sod who decided to deal with such an unscrupulous arse, there'd be a way.
Twer it A. He's have received a plastering right there and then, maybe even with the bolt croppers outside his head as a thankyou.
Twer it B. Fuck knows, I'd not wait to here his story though, "sorry son, my bike, It's staying with me now, be more careful who you do business with".

On the negative side someone's neglected to keep the chain tensioned,
The steering is still out of line aka the head clamp is fucked and they removed my front brake.. which weren't on there long.
But what was nice of them is they replaced the missing spokes from the rear wheel and they completely replaced my front wheel,
Which had a buckled rim, with a like for my rear rim, hub and spokes.
(I remember those weren't cheap Razz)

So yeh, I felt like a right mug when it was stolen last year but no it feels as if I've got them back for twice the effect.
Like I said it was in the middle of the high street,
full of CCTV and the like so no doubt it would be my luck that the police call on me but fuck em.
I reported it the first time and they didn't do shit so they can go stuff it. Middle Finger Mr. Green

There you go allymoss, probably not what you were expecting and to be fair it had nothing on st3v3's reclamation tale in terms of heroism but I'm happy so what the heck.

shouldn't it be either 0 - 0 or 1 - 1? seeing as you were 1 - 0 down when it got nicked, but now have a point for getting it back Laughing

Also you gain man points for going into town with bolt croppers and stealing a bike (your own, but you still stole it) Very Happy

I'd like to read this thread in the spirit that its intended, but you cant prove its your bike, unless you logged a frame number when you reported the theft.

The last owner, may have bought it in good faith.

If I were you, I'd delete what you have put, because it could be seen as a description of criminal damage and theft.

Back to the spirit of the thread, tho

Glad you got your bike back Smile Thumbs Up

Haha I would have stuck around and asked the lad where he got it from first and then stole it. That way you get to watch him cry as four months of paper round money rides away.

If I were you, I'd let the rozzers know what you've done, just in case the camera ops took your mugshot and are about to post a campaign at the local colleges etc.

Actually, if I were you, I'd have locked the damn thing the first time, but hey ho...! Thumbs Up

I have all the proof I need it was my bike, if I came into trouble for it then I have a few photo's on here that I could hand to the police.
They could compare them against the bike and it would be case closed, the photo's are unedited and date back to '07 I think.
Sound advice there but in a way I'd enjoy the trouble,
If they want to come chasing me over my own bike then I'll take great pleasure in asking where they were when it was nicked in the first place.
Like I said, fuck em.

Quick question. Did you receive insurance payout for the bike (or under home insurance). If so then IIRC it's not yours anymore therefore cannot be reclaimed (i.e. you stole it).

If no insurance payout then it's muddy waters time as to the legal position.

Mind you, there is the old saying about possession being 9/10ths and all that. I take it there's nothing as obvious as a frame number/postcode stamp.

You got a link to that thread?

Considering it had parts replaced I suggest it was sold onto someone who didn't realise/care it had been previously stolen. Also I doubt anyone who owned it,who knew it was stolen would park it up so close to where it was pinched (unless it they're very stupid).

Reclaiming your own property is never theft, ever.
I'm sure he knows it's his and to be honest I would do the same, so good on him for doing it.
All he can be done for is criminal damage to the chain, for the same reason as you would for removing a clamp.

But again, fvuck it. I'd to exactly the same as Mac and good on him for having the balls to get back what's rightfully his.

Had no insurance on it, ever. Couldn't claim on house insurance as my mother informed me that was non existant, we're too skint.
Nope, no obvious stamps registered.

No sorry I don't, he mentioned it in the "Most surreal thing's you've witnessed" thread though.

Yeah, you've got sound logic there and it most likely had been sold on, unlucky really but it was mine to take..
A big problem is whoever may have bought it may not know it was nicked originally and probably just feels like he's lost out without realising why.
So therefore he might not learn from this mistake and would be likely to repeat business with people such as the thief in the future, unknowingly incriminating himself in the act.

At first I wondered why on earth I saw my name there.. Confused Embarassed I've never seen any pushbikes we've had stolen to be able to get them back but since I always use cheapo things they're mechancially more of a danger to any potential theif than a valued loss. Laughing

Had the same thing man, its a great feeling.

Quoted this from an old thread where I wrote about it.

chris-red wrote:
HAHA I'm glad my dads the way he is,

On July 6 2005 (day before the london bombings) My push bike was nicked outside an offy (there was a shop worker outside and I asked him to watch it why I got some beer) a guy jumped out of a car jumped on my bike an road off Evil or Very Mad Anyway the next day I told my dad what happened when he got in from work which was in algate at the time, he was caught up in the aftermath of the bombings and wasn't a happy bunny. After he shouted at me he took me to the police station, we come to a T juction and we are going left. We both just see my bike ride straight passed us. My dad gives chase in his car bumps up the pavement and cuts in front of him knocking him off my bike we get out and this guys kicks off, and goes for my dad he takes a step forward and the guy runs off with my dad chasing him Twisted Evil anyway my dad comes back and we put the bike in the boot and visit the police station. Cut a longer story a bit shorter the guy got 130 hours communitty service. After trying to explain that he thought it was his friends bike and he was bringing it back to me, how he knew where I lived I'll never know.

I know someone will make the point how I knew it was my bike and not someone innocent on the same one, so... My bike has a very rare colour scheme and after doing severly longer distance rides with several thousand people I have only ever seen 1 other the same, plus it has my blue speedo specialist road tyres and light etc.

The look on the guys face was pricless I wish I had had a camera.

For those that can't be bothered to look through the oher thread, here is st3v3's post.
st3v3 wrote:
Mine, maybe, was the following since I'd grown up with the likes of Road Rash 3D; kicking videogame characters off bikes in a race.

One day my brother had his TS125 stolen for the 3rd and final time. I found it being ragged on the local cycle track, no better place right?
I found an entrance to where they were messing about and just waited, about 10-12 mins later I see this yellow thing go speeding past, I saw it tunnel vision style so I set off in pursuit, soon caught up with these two scallies that were ragging it's poor little piston out... I got almost straight at the side of them, no time to waste seeing the bridge coming up (it was a disused railway line, simply tarmaced over) I drew level before they'd glanced to their right an registered I was there. I got ready, stood up on the peg's thinking I'm one crazy bastard and wondered the best way to do this, I couldn't back down now and had to act since i would be noticed imminently. I made sure I was heading pretty much straight, grabbed my clip-ons and kicked as hard as I could to my left, the bike started to wobble and develop a severe tank slapper, I was still in the 'kick' position and realized that pretty soon I'd be in a 'hurt lying on the floor with a broken bike' position.
I put my left foot back slowly on the peg, then rapidly came to a stop, looked behind me to see the pillion rolling forwards along the track, the rider had caught on and stopped too.
The pillion full of adrenaline got up, headed for me still on my bike and was closing fast.
The rider of the TS was actually starting to cry, while his now pissed off pillion was about to touch my rear light, I set off and nailed it through the gears seeing as I wasn't taking on 2 of them, one really pissed I'd just caused him serious injuries. I went and grabbed the nearest police man and demanded he get the strolen yellow bike stopped, 14 minutes later a traffic car unit fuond the bike ditched with a peice of rag soaked hanging out of the petrol tank unlit.

For me, that event was an epic 5 mins and etched in my memory like a cheap film stunt but my god, did I get a buzz from it once I'd parked up and gathered my thoughts. Thumbs Up

It's a shame there isn't a "Badass" rating Thumbs Up Laughing

To bo fair, if you have owned a bike or whatever, for long enough.
If it is stolen and even if you don't see it for years.
When you do, you know damm well that its your bike.
Every scratch, chip or blemish, you not only recognize but can probably tell the story how it got there.
If anything was stolen from me that I'd owned for a while, I think I would be 100% sure if it was mine or not
