I currently have around £1200-1500 to buy a new bike, but as I already have a GS500 that is fine at the moment for getting me from A to B, I don't need the new bike straight away.
Also, I don't really want to fuck around with insurance, so will probably wait until my policy finishes on the GS in May before I insure and use my new bike, and will use the GS to fund the insurance. That way, I will have a fresh sum to pay, and two years no claims, giving me a bit more room to afford insurance for a higher group bike.
So, I had an epiphany and decided I want to get a decent bike, definitely more powerful than the GS, probably a 600 IL4 of some sort. However, because I have a few months, and it may possibly be cheaper and I will learn a lot, do you reckon I should get a crash damaged/just generally broken bike, and do it up? This way, would I be able to get a better condition bike in the long run than if I saved a bit more and spent roughly £1800 on a new (used) bike?
If I were to save and wait until May to buy the bike, I would be looking at the usual R6/thundercat, GSXR 6, CBR6F etc.
So what do you think, get a project bike and if so what do you recommend (eBay link if possible), or just wait and buy a bike at the time?
to the helpful replies as always.

I see what you mean, I forgot to mention my dad is an ex bike mechanic and instructor, so knows many bikes inside out and if I get stuck I will be okay, also I have access to every tool I would need.

That's dissapointing I suppose, as I do want a nice, tidy, good looking bike as opposed to my G Shitter 500. ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.
