Really enjoying getting back on the bike after the snow has mostly gone Thumbs Up

My T reg Busa has got a 4-2-1 devil system on it and burbles and pops...but even better it has some deep manly pops on the overrun Thumbs Up The Speed Triple does this as well (but nowhere near as deep as the Busa Evil or Very Mad ). I've had several bikes that could do this. But these are the best Karma

SO,

Can someone explain what is happening and any negative effects. Sounds awesome BTW Laughing happy Laughing

Its something to do with extra fuel burning in the exhaust IIRC, putting off getting a new exhaust for my Revere because I get the same noise where it snapped.

Sorry I can't explain any further

Fresh air gets sucked in through a leak in the system, mixes with unburnt fuel in the exhaust, ignites and goes pop.

My understanding is its based on a lean condition with the throttle closed at higher revs. High vacuum etc. Erratic burning of lean mixture can lead to ignition in the headers = pops and bangs. So basically the pipe leans things off slighty and lets the bangs sound louder.

+1

Its a big problem with Virago's and aftermarket exhausts. The answer on those is to richen the idle mixture.

Don't think there was any adverse effects. I guess there is a risk of burning the valves if it did it a lot but I've never heard of it being a problem.

My vote goes to sucking air into the exhaust through a bad joint and / being a tad rich.
