I've got a 1980 Benly 200, bought it as a winter workhorse, back a forth to work, dropping the kid at school etc... Thumbs Up
It does an "indicated" 50/55mph, but seems to hold with traffic relatively well, so im not sure if the speedo/rev counter is knacked in some way.
It was sat for 3yrs before i bought it, and i've not serviced it yet. It feels a bit flat, but thats to be expected, I feel it'd work a lot better after a basic service.
Has anyone owned one "back in the day"? Cool
How did they perform?
I know its going to be a bulletproof little bike, but I just want to know what to expect "performance" wise.

Early versions afflicted with camchain problems, later Benlys were tougher but slow. Soft handling; flimsy back wheel, squidgy shocks, lacks ground clearance, etc. 12V version preferable. Check state of the spark plugs as cheap engine alloy strips threads. Avoid bikes with excessive vibes. Poor running may be down to a rusted tank and poor fuel supply. Easy to upgrade the suspension



Probably could do with oil, plugs, filters etc....

Especially if its been sitting a while.....

Is it the 12V CDI model?

70 seems a long way off at the moment!!!
Pretty sure its the 6v version, came with a 6v battery anyhow...

Looking forward to getting it to run as it should, im gonna give it a strip down and service in summer when I wont be using it.

Fueling could be the issue, im thinking the carb bowl will be full of crap etc, ill have a look at the tank at the same time.

Well, it wasnt too bad before half a winters abuse at my hands Embarassed

F***ed now, will be replacing it post haste!
Would it make a significant difference?

Also, it wont pull in 4th (top), is this because its 30yr old and isn't meant to, or is it lack of maintinence?
