Crosser lids?

Hi.

My mate gave me a pretty much new crosser lid. It appears to be in good condition and seeing as some bitch dropped a tv on my caberg what I want to know is is it any good in a smash road style?

This is what I've got. He was ripping it because he thinks it looks stupid or something. What do yout hingk? I took a photo of it in my room.

How can I expect it to perform compared to a road style lid in a smash? I normally wear a film front caberg. I'm not bothered about how it looks, just how it'll perform.

How well it will do in a crash is largely down to how well the lid fits you.

If you're riding a sports bike wearing an MX lid then I wouldn't be surprised if you get stopped lots of times by the police who'll think you're a chav who's nicked the bike.

MX helmet in a road smash? Tools for the job I was told. I wouldn't like to butt tarmac with one.

Something about the peak and extended mouth piece says broken neck to me. Never crashed in one though.

The peak isn't rigid, if you hit the ground it'll just shatter.

MX lids are used in supermoto racing and they're riding on tarmac so they can't be too bad if you crash on the road.

It's down to how well the lid fits you.

It will be stronger than the caberg, as flip up front helmets are only tested to standards for open face helmets. A flip up front helmet might look like a full face helmet, but it only gives the protection of an open face helmet.

As I frequently mention, I knew someone who died after face planting a tree in a caberg flip front. He wore it as he could have a smoke without having to take his lid off, so I guess smoking killed him really.

Theyre still designed to meet the same standards in terms of crashing.

The peak would flick off and the extended chin bar would make little if no difference I doubt.

Biggest problem will be getting stopped by the fuzz and the windblast which about 80-ish (depends on conditions) will try to take your head off.

Colin; if they're sold as an open face, that's all they're tested as (such as the roof version), however the Cabergs are sold as full-face as far as I know. Doesn't mean they will be perfect in all situation, same as all helmets.

I occasionally ride on the road with my MX helmet, any hint of a breeze and your head gets buffeted around. At roughly 40mph the peak really catches the wind. But I find my MX helmet a lot more comfortable than my full face one, plus they dont fog up so you dont have to fiddle with visors or vents.

No reason why they wont perform as well in a crash as a full face, they still have to meet the same standards. Do you like it as a helmet?

It's probably worth mentioning that even some full face helmets (cheaper ones I'd assume) do not have the chin bar tested anyway.
