Question I've got two holes in a CG125 exhaust. I've been told that a self-taping screw in each should solve the problem.

Problem is I've never tried this, do I need any sealer or just screws?
How long will this fix last?

If I get chance I plan to take off the exhaust, treat the rust and coat it in black exhaust paint. So is there any other fixes I should try?

Any advice appreciated. MAP

Well if you are going to bodge it with a self tapping screw I would cover it in gun gum, and then when it is in the exhaust shove a load more over it! It probably will blow out eventualy, so you will have to keep applying it now and again.

Thanks again for the info. Exhaust will probably end up whatever colour I can get. Previous owner tried black but it's flaked off so looks naff. May try again black or see about a brushed aluminium look. Let you know how I get on, been too busy this weekend to get the exhaust off. Rolling Eyes

Where exactly are these holes?

i wouldn't worry too much, if a couple of screws will cover it then there not gonna be a big problem.
Also bear in mind you can get cg exhausts for not very much (probably how much it would cost you in welding) from a bike breakers if it came down to it.

whatever you do dont use exhaust tape from halfords. i put some on my bikes exhaust and the exhaust hole go bigger underneath the tape. so when i was ridin along it blew the tape apart and i found a hole 10 times as big as before. and it was insanly loud for my 10 mile ride home. i would also go down my local breakers yard and get a new one. search google for breakers yards in your area. that how i found mine and now im a regular. you wont regret it.
good luck Very Happy
