Right so here goes.

Started off looking pretty tidy
https://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o114/DynaMight/SP1/IMG_1184.jpg

Had a slight mishap on a trackday, basically highsided turned low sided at the best part of 70MPH.

https://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o114/DynaMight/Pembrey%20June%202009/IMG_4209.jpg

I got of quite lightly too. Badly bruised foot, twisted both ankles and tore my rotator cuff in my shoulder Sad

Out on track 10 days later looking second hand....so was the rider Smile

Had some slight repairs to get me by:

https://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o114/DynaMight/SP1/IMG_4693.jpg
Gotta love a old can of Satin Black Cool and are perfect track fairings now Smile

Bought some Chinese fairings from Ebay. Paint quality is good, fitment was alright but needed some slight adjustment but I expected that. Just waiting on the tank now, then will be ready Cool

That doesnt look too shabby Thumbs Up Seems fairly decent quality from the pics. Thats the one thing that puts me off using my bike for trackdays, im considering a 'cheaper' bike to use for track days only.

Oh not bad...

I was looking at those fairings as second set as they seem fairly cheap.

What did it come to with import duty etc?

Nope the guy I bought them from marked it as a gift Smile I bought from this guy https://myworld.ebay.co.uk/fairingonline/ but I bought on Ebay US since the exchange rare works out about £20-30 cheaper.

i've been pondering over these chinese fairings for a while now (2 years Laughing ), but have always been put off by the risk of import duty and the fact that the holes could be nowhere near in the right place and leave me with random (seen) holes in the fairing.

how far off were the holes and how long did the kit take to arrive once bought?

I can only speak for my body kit, other bikes may have better/worse fitment. I would guess that the more complex it is the higher the chance something will be off.

Most of the holes were there or thereabouts. However pretty much all of them needed opening up as the paint/lacquer made them smaller than they should had been. Even the free windscreen was a perfect fit! and also a very tall double bubble, almost like a TT windscreen, its not on in the pics but will be in the next pics.

Only one (well two) that are not close enough to dremal is the ones on the rear cowl just above the rearsets, for some reason its way off, although the other four are a very good fit imo, not the end of the world as those bolts are not really needed but I will sort it. Also the tabs at the bottom that joins the two side fairings together didnt fit together but a simple cable tie has fixed that but the ones at the rear were a perfect fit.

Ordered 26th Nov and arrived 27th Dec. He didnt post the item until 14th Dec, I assume he orders them and has to wait for them to be made/sent to him, his eBay page said it would be posted in 7 days. It actually only took 6 days to get from China>Gatwick but sat in Gatwick for a further 7 days until they released it. In theory it could had been delivered quicker if his end and our end were faster!

It might just be me but in the 2nd pic it looks like the swingarm is sort of bent towards the camera.

Or is it just an illusion by the exhaust?

The exhaust was bent towards the swingarm, well the hanger was anyway. Swingarm is fine, it didnt take a hit except for the when exhaust got pushed into it.

Amazingly it all pulled back into shape well enough. Some grazing on the mid pipes and some minor marks on the end of the exhaust but overall the high levels actually had less damage because they were so close to the bike.

I do have some Jardine high level cans as shown in the first pic a the top. The metal gets very dull and stained when it rains so I tend to leave them off in the winter. I dont mind it quiet anyway, it's pretty much the same noise when I'm riding, just not as loud for people around me Smile

They're fine on the track, heavy so dont turn as quickly as the lighter bikes but are very stable once over. Speed wise they're about the same as a newish 600 but overall, a decent rider on both and a 600 would be quicker.

I have to get one of these (would like to get this for £1600 if I can get the money together).

Did you get slapped with any import tax for the plastics?

How much does it cost to fill her up and how far does it generally get you if you ride gingerly?

Nope it was marked as a gift so no import tax.

It's an 18l tank, 4l reserve so roughly £16 depending on stupid fuel prices!

Tank range is about 100-120 miles depending on how you hammer it. I have got 143miles before reserve on a motorway stint, well the last 30miles were fast and flowing - I was quite impressed with that. Most important part is a Power Commander! massively increased MPG and makes the whole thing much smoother.

AND!!

They don't like sitting at 30. seems to be a slight flaw with the fuelling with the injectors, i think cant remember what Seb said that mine is one less tooth on the front. this seems to have sorted it?

Other than that GET ONE! Smile

Mines fine now it has a Power Commander with a map. I was cruising through a village today, 4th gear 25MPH 1,800RPM no issues, before the PC you couldn't even let it get below 4,000RPM on the motorway else it would jerk until you went down a gear or two Smile

Yeah one less does help but PC is where its at.

Be careful if you go for a crashed SP1, check the radiators *very* closely, any damage beyond snapped tabs that can't be wielded up and you've got a huge bill on your plate to sort it out.

Just to note, average tank range without a PC3 is about 80 miles, I had it in my head that the tank was 16L though? And yes, be prepared to do quite a lot of tinkering if you want the bike to be remotely smooth at anything less than 40mph.

They are absolutely epic bikes though Thumbs Up

There's no issue with 30mph or low revs with the power commander fitted. I bought mine without and whilst I wouldn't say it was unrideable, it very quickly became unbearable - very juddery and unpredictable at anything below 4-5k RPM.

I get about 110-130 miles to reserve depending on how I ride. The tank is 18l - a lesson they learned after the 15l Firestorm tank was so widely criticised.

Dynamight - the fairing kit actually looks very impressive from the pictures - how does the quality compare with the OE stuff? Does it look/feel cheaper in the flesh? Did you have your tank resprayed or buy a second tank?

Oh and sound aside, stock cans do look better than almost all of the after market jobs Thumbs Up

I've had a very bad experience with the whole chinese fairings thing.. wouldnt recommend it..

Mine came with loads of cracks and when I send it back (which had tracking and showed that they signed for it) they claimed they didnt recieve it and ignored everything else from me Thumbs Down

It was as I expected, the plastic is a little big thinner than OE. The fit was alright, nothing majorly out except the two bolts closest to the tank on the rear seat unit. A few holes needed enlarging to accept OE bolts, although replacement bolts would had fitted ok, besides the OE bolts come with spacers built in which dont work too well because the OE panels are thicker around the bolt holes and the chinky ones are not, so I used washers. The little bit below the headlights didnt fit at all, but the OE bit fitted perfectly. The seller has sent me another one though so we'll see if its a one off.

Paint is quite good, a few marks here and there but nothing major.

From the outside you wouldnt know they're chinky ones. They're not as good as OE but good enough imo. I just hope they last without any problems, if they do then they're a really good buy.

I had the tank repaired and resprayed. Cost £110 inc decals in the end. It was only because of the tank damage I went for another scheme, if the tank was unharmed I would had probably gone for the original red/black scheme.
