Bit of out the centre, but I've found this place to be alright. This place is more central, but it's less nice. I'd only recommend the Arrive hotel as somewhere that's a good location and is very cheap, I wouldn't recommend it as a quality hotel as it's got high quality windows that need gaffa tape if you want to close them. Laughing

If you're going on holiday to Amsterdam then you should know that when hiring a prostitute, never ask her to "sit on my face" in a shilly dutch akshent.

Stayed at the Winston on Warmoesstraat twice, classed more as a hostel/hotel buts its decent for what it is and cheap. It was clean and fairly quiet considering its central location.
Stayed there with mates not expecting a lot (after staying the year before at durty nellys Thumbs Down Thumbs Down ) , however was pleasantly surprised so had no quarms taking the mrs there the following year.

Right in the middle of the Red Light District, clean, cheap enough, 24hr bar and there's breakfast. It's no smoking though but we got away with hanging out the window and they let you smoke in the bar.

Hotel Formule 1 - Amsterdam @ €49.00 (£43.00) per room (sleeps max 3)

Or try Amsterdam on a budget from €20.00

Just wondering as I am going on a study trip thing and we stop in Amsterdam for 2 nights I think.

We have been told we are free from after 5pm or something till we have to be back at the Hostel at 10 or 11 or something.

Do we just walk into a coffee shop, look at the menu and order?
Can you buy just green on its own and roll it in the shop and smoke it?
I know various websites have this info but they seem to contradict each other.

Yes & yes.

You might be asked for ID. There is a tobacco smoking ban in the Netherlands the same as in this country, so you could get in trouble in some places for smoking tobacco with your cannabis. Laughing

Some coffeeshops have areas where you're allowed to smoke tobacco and in others you're not allowed to put tobacco in your spliffs but I understand some aren't bothered about it as long as you're not making yourself too obvious.

A coffee shop is allowed to sell you 5 grams per day. Some will sell you more than that if you ask or you could go back later in the day and be served by someone else.

By law you're allowed a maximum of 30 grams in your possession.

Sadly you can't have a splif and a pint anywhere anymore Sad Maximum your allowed to have is 5g. Coffeeshops are allowed to stock more as its a business not personal ownership. So coffeeshops can sell you more than 5g, but generally won't at any one time and won't display those amounts on the menu. I've bought alot more than 5g from a place in a day without problems.

The prerolled splifs there are often reasonable value and decent standard if you just want to pop in for a quick smoke. Most places have a menu with hash and weed sections, but only some do space cakes, space hot chocolate, decent hot chocolate which i would highly recommend. Also Pancakes Laughing

By law coffee shops are allowed to have 500 grams in stock and a private individual is allowed to have 30 grams in their possession.

Coffee shops allowed to sell someone 5 grams of cannabis per day, more than that and it's illegal so they could get in trouble for it. But like you say, it's quite possible to buy more than 5 grams. Smile
