First off how old are you, if your 17 with that kind of budget i would skip mopeds and look for a 125cc geared bike, however if you are 16 then fair enough.

For mopeds and your first bike i wouldn't use such a big budget, find a good condition second hand bike, this would benefit you for insurance money and also leave you with some extra cash to upgrade the parts or even save for when you want to move onto a 125 bike.

Im currently on a moped and looking for a 125, i use a 04 plate Piaggio NRG MC3 and its a great little bike, i have had no troubles with it so far and its quite nippy for a moped, with a sports exhaust and some new rollers i can get it to hit 50mph on straights quite easy. I picked mine up second hand for ?300 and it was in very good condition it just needed rollers changing and a few other quick fixes.

However I would recommend you stay away from the Yamaha Speedfights, they are not as good as some people make out or as they give the impression of being, but this is entirely up to you Smile

good point mr kris, you can find quite a few decent 50cc geared bikes what your budget should be able to cover, but id still recommend getting second hand bikes you dont want to be a novice and come off or drop a lovely brand new bike haha Wink

well i dont pay much attention to the moped market that much, but any form of Italjet moped or the NRG's are from experience a good little bike (:

but if you planning on properly getting into bikes id go for a geared 50cc bike like the aprilia's

I Got my Brand new Rieju Nkd50 for ?1800, had a 2 year warranty so will be easier to sell when im 17.

I'd recommend an RS2 50 though, if your thinking more sporty, just as good as an RS50, no common as muck looks though.

I bought an abused Generic Trigger SM50 08 for 400quid, don't do anything that looks too good to be true.

Took me ages to get it running, engine is fine now, speedo and brake lights don't work.

Aprilia SX/MX/RX50 are good, as are the Derbi's. Plenty of parts around.

Buy a speedfight2 for 500 quid and get ready for your test, then party with the rest of your money.
A speedfight2 does everything you would want from a scooter and are as common as muck, so parts are a piece of piss to source Thumbs Up
