Good Morning everyone,

I just need some independent advice on this subject please.
I took my bike to a local bike shop on Friday last week who quoted me between ?45 and ?55 to replace the fork seals on my Honda Hornet (02 Model)

After numerous phone calls and promises (the seals haven't been delivered and it'll be ready tomorrow etc..) I get a sneaky txt this morning simply saying

" Hi you bike is ready to be picked up total including parts and labour ?81.99 thanks Fics Motorcycles if you can pay cash there is no VAT to add.

Am I right in thinking that ?81.99 is quite a steep increase for the original quotation? Can I ask how both prices compare to what people would normally be expected to pay and the rough turn around. Bare in mind the blokes had it since 9am on Monday morning...

Many Thanks

Regards Rick

Steep on the original quote but for that sort of job is an average price, ESB in bolton charge ?135, Regents charged ?90, Peter does about ?75, all less if you took the forks out to bring to them.

You did get the bushes changed didn't you? , else they will go pop fairly quickly and Sickie will be angry, I mean erm angrier than his normal state.

That doesn't sound an excessive price, especially if using official Honda parts.

Were your quotes definitely for the entire thing, not just labour?

It is a bit of work if you're taking the whole bike in.

Of course, if you wanted to be nasty you could always try threatening to report them for their VAT-dodging suggestion (presuming a do-good-fascist on here hasn't already done so Wink.)

Itchy & G

Thanks for the quick reply both of you.

With regards to the bushes I do not know... Is there a way to tell?
I took it to him with the left seal leaking oil on the fork stem (suspecting the seal had gone). I'm not mechanically minded, by that I mean I wouldn't have known I would have needed bushes too. I would hope that given the time he's had it and his mechanical know how he would have changed them at the same time (if that is what is needed)

In terms of the ?45 to ?55 quote. He simply said it will be around ?45. If I have any trouble with bolts while taking the folks off the frame then it'll be another tenner or so. Dont worry I wont come back with a stupid figure like ?100 or ?150...

On that I thought well, didn't seem to bad. I didn't really know how much a job like that would cost and on that price it wasn't worth fussing about and potentially damaging the forks.

That's crap. As long as the Teflon coating on the bushes is fine there is no need to replace them.

I replaced the fork seals on my TZR but kept the original bushes, 700 miles later and no leaks.
