I found this on another forum , the pictures are very graphic and seem to have been taken by someone that works in a trauma unit .

They are a stark reminder of the dangers we face every day . If you don't have the right riding gear , take a good look . If just one person gets geared up because of these pics , then my work is done Wink

The original poster is not a preaching 'anti-biker', and is not condescending in any way.

Warning graphic content (get the sick bag ready).

Even if it's second hand stuff off e-bay , it'll do it's job , leather and boots every time Very Happy

In fairness I could find an awful lot of pictures of dead riders wearing full protective gear...if I posted some would you stop riding your bike?

Frankly, road rash is nothing compared to being killed or paralysed, something your gear is unlikely to prevent happening in a large proportion of cases (apart from your helmet of course).

As I've mentioned in passing before (LOL), if people are so scared to be on a bikes that they need to wear a suit of armour, just give it up and drive a car.

I've never worn leathers/body armour/other nonsense and have survived major accidents without having bits of me hanging off. It's all luck. If your number's up, you're going to end up in bits no matter how much kevlar/carbon/the like you're encased in.

This lad will have a few interesting scars to talk about down the pub now.

Get fcuked. I'll judge when I should and should not wear my kit. It's down to choice what people wear, now go and preach somewhere else.

Edit: Bladesman seems to think it's not my choice to make. Laughing

Agh i'm getting mixed thoughts NOW lol. Part of me is saying I should wear leathers, but the other part is saying whats the point if i'll fall off and die anyway?

I were some expensive gloves, half decent helmet and motorcycle boots that go half way up my shins. Its not always convenient for me to wear leather trousers as most of the time I ride to go to places i.e college. Its not nice walking round in leather trousers all day.

A much better angle would be to make an effort to not crash if you don't want to be hurt Wink. For the cost of decent bike kit you can probably easily get enough training to make this massively less likely.
I know I don't always make enough effort, so generally I wear a full set of protective kit.
I was slightly irked when a London police person started having a go at me over shorts and a t-shirt - there was plenty of cyclists managing not too far off my speed (all 30s) wearing a similar or lesser amount of protection (less protective helmet and boots), but with significantly less good brakes, tyres and road presence. Nothing was said to them. I didn't argue too much at the time as he pointed out he could do me for 3 points for a missing chain guard.
I didn't see him with a five point harness or full helmet for his fast traffic car - two things that will massively reduce the chance of some of the worst injuries in a car crash.

I don't come on this forum to be preached at. It seems to be a nasty part of human nature that when one makes a mistake one latches on to an aspect of it and then tries to get everybody to do the same thing. This applies to any traumatic event.

For example, recently a small child was killed when some chav shot it with an air rifle. The mother, instead of campaigning against feral chavs who roam our sink estates, started campaigning against air weapons. It wasn't the air weapon that shot the kid, it was the guy holding it.

Similarly here, we all know we should wear gear all the time in order to take the least amount of risk, but we all also know that we'd probably be safer in a car.

There is risk in motorcycling and the only freedom we currently have is to choose how we take that risk. We have precious little freedom to take risk in other areas of our lives, and we really shouldn't ruin it.

We're all adults, and many of us have crashed bikes at various times. We all know what can happen. I'd rather not have it waved in my face on the forum thanks.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

ouchies.

im not easily squeemish, but the one with the hand all ripped open made me gag.

i dont feel preached to, but at the same time i still like to wear my gear because i know what can happen i.e those pics!

the gear i wear will prevent the road rash but theres still impact injuries, where padded armour can only do so much.

Where's the thread where people haven't worn gear and have gotten away extremely lightly? Or the one where they've worn full gear and been ripped to shreds?

*gag*

I'll never look at tortillas in the same way again!

However I am not going to run out and buy myself a one piece leather race suit with extra knee, shoulder, elbow and back protection. I am big enough and ugly enough to decide if I want to wear jeans or put my leathers on.

In my experience if im just plodding around i will wear what ever i damn well like, i have come off wearing all the gear and come off just wearing jeans and a work shirt.

Out of both accidents i came off worse wearing all the gear!
