CBr600's are 10 a penny where as the RVF hold there value very well,
id say the RVF is a better bike smaller more fun and if your ristricted the 33bhp wont TOTALY KILL a 400!
400 will be cheaper insurance Laughing just Razz

I was mainly concearned with going from my current nsr125 straight to a 600 being a tad too powerfull. I have been riding my nsr125 around for the last 14 months. Thought the RVF400 would be a more sensible choice.

As a 2 stroke you really need to thrash the nsr to keep up with traffic esp on motorways. What rpm in 6th will the RVF400 reach 70 - 80mph?.

Kevo.

You won't be in 6th to get to 70mph. 3rd maybe 4th. If you've been riding an NSR for 14 months I think you'll want to upgrade to a 600 as soon as you get a 400. I've just bought an RF400R and it's great, but I'm limited to 33bhp. A 400 is therefore practical for me. If you're not restricted I would go for the 600 and just take it easy:)... for a bit

PRoviding you are sensible with the power (errr...yes Smile ) you shouldn't have a problem.. IMHO a 600 is actually easier to ride becasue you've got a broader spread of tourque.

It's a strange comparison, and it's all down to your current situation. How old you are, how tall you are, how much money you have, NCBs...etc...

Buy an RVF, and you'll be buying a grey imported 'used' bike, usually without any traceable history. But RVFs are great fun, and you are usually more aware of how fast you are travelling. Power delivery is linear and predictable, and generally kinder to 'beginners'.

Jump on a 600 (or bigger), and you won't be able to imagine riding anything smaller (well, sports-bike-wise anyway). The CBRs have gone through a variety of changes over the years, and only the most recent ones have fuel injection and digital clocks.

You can probably pick up a decent 94 RVF for around the same price as a tatty 2k CBR6.

They're both Hondas, so reliability shouldn't be an issue, and parts can be sourced easily for both bikes.

In 6th gear, each 1000rpm corresponds to 10mph. Revs up to 14k...Cool

If its just a toy then go with the RVF, if your goint to be doin a lot of commuting or touring then go with the CBR.

I travelled over 400 miles on the weekend on my RVF, and there ain't nowt wrong with it!...you get a bit of turbulence over 120mph, but that keeps you awake Shocked

it's not the comfort (though that is an issue for me)... it's that you can be lazier on a 600... I can turn the throttle in pretty much any gear and still get power without having to find the powerband.

Yeah, that's true, G, but that also ties into my "safety" point...you really have to wind the throttle on the RVF, and be more aware of the tacho...

Bigger bikes are for lazy buggers...and fat b@stards!...Laughing

I'd say a 600 is safer... if you want to get the power down on a 400 you have to drop it a gear or two while on a 600 you can just wind the throttle on. With a smoother tourque curve the power is more progressive so less likley to 'bite' you.

You seem to be missing my point.
Yes, both bikes will make good toys and they will both commute. However, the RVF will make a better toy and the CBR will make a better 'sensible' bike, due to its larger size and more relaxed riding position and its power delivery.

/me doesn't belive you Razz

McJam:
Depends how much you are gonna spend... the new cbr's are pretty damn small and the handling in the 600 class is all fairly similar.
The 400 will be easier to ride at 100% more of the time... but I like having a bike that can allways go faster than I can Smile
