Some of you may know i do abit of music.
Since getting my hand-held recorder i've sampled anything thats of interest. But voices are awkward to get without me being covert.
Sometimes i'll record bits off the telly, but getting an original voice recording isa bugger.
I'm not upfront enough to cold-call members of public, which is a shame as we've got some good local accents.

So what i'm after are words..sentences..phrases all in your local tongue. If you want to embellish your accent then go with it.
Swear words are fine but i'll be limited where to use them.
Poems are ok, but i reserve the right to chop them up and generally fuck with them Twisted Evil
Saying that i have used the Lords Prayer albeit spoken in Cherokee.

Any format and quality will do. Even if its just the audio from a blank video etc

You can post them here if they are very small.

Much appreciated.

Here's something i did that includes recordings of me sat on a hill watching a plane fly over..Thunderstorm recorded Nr Newtown in Wales.
And a great American voice talking about the Fairlight sampler (1980s)
Me splashing in bath
My dog growling and some road rumbles.
I apologise for the swanny whistle outro Embarassed

Pat

Cool, reminds me of The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds

Thats all well and good. But its not putting samples on the table is it. Smile

A Plee :
I understand its not an easy thing to do. A pic of your bike/dog/Ex wouldn't be problem. But your own voice is very personal innit.
Most of us dislike the sound of our own voice, thats why i said feel free to embelish your accent, act it up abit if you're shy. Try shouting from a distance to whatever it is you're using to record. Whispers up close can work well.

I'm sure there is someone with a thick southern accent who can say the immortal words 'Punch her in the tits and do her up the garry'

Please no karma just voices.
You will never know how much this fuels my inspiration. (abit ghey sounding..but honest...Ahh i've done it again)

You will be getting numerous variants of this tonight.
... and best of all, I live near Devils Dyke, where your name comes from Smile

I love the 'Howling Terror' story. Twisted Evil Cool Thumbs Up
Wonder what the reaction would've been if they'd tried it up in Scotland. (found it and smashed it?)

Ok BCF you're either meh about this or shy whatever.
Its important for me to get original voice samples. Ripping stuff from films and every other media is too easy. I can get CD samples from top film librarys, but that isn't me.

I jotted some stuff:

Allow yourself the priviledge of spontaneity

Loved by a stranger, liked by a friend

Free existence was given

I have pages of this drivel Neutral

I want your drivel Thumbs Up Karma

Thanks

Just hit record and improvise...or say a word or phrase that has meaning. Say it with feeling or say it straight.

If i made music the 'normal' way i'd ask for stuff pertinent to the songs i'm working on....I don't....i improvise...laying one instrument next to another in a series of one-take recordings..I have no intention of polishing my turds..i let them fall as they fell.

In the intro of your song, where do the words come from, and who speaks them?
They feature at the start of Lee Perry's 'Caveman Skank', and i've wondered about it for a while now.....

That was nice, lovely melody, but the voice samples other than "musical intruments can be prerecorded..." one seemed to be too prominent IMO.

Still, better than I can do!

May do some clips for you, why not eh?

Have you heard Steve Reich's "Different Trains"? It's an amazing piece of music inspired by interviews with holocaust survivors and other people alive at the same time talking about trains.

He used the natural rhythm of the spoken phrases and words to build up the music and make it sound like trains moving into and out of phase.

I love it, it's a work of genius - and hopefully will inspire you a bit Thumbs Up

Ta Annabella. Not my thing, but things that aren't my thing sometimes do become my thing.

Well for a brave bunch of bikers you sure were cissy when it came to sending me stuff Razz
Probably a good job, otherwise i might of done a turgid instrumental with your voice used as an intro....Ta Dave JPS Wink Thumbs Up

For those that bother.
I used my Melody Maker into a delay.
An old Dunun played congo style and nailbrush on skin.
Cort Bass into an old cab i jammed with blankets. (DUB IT)
My trusty JM27 and RV4 mics
Judicial use of Ebow and tone/vol pots.
Vsynth GT for the spacey and raspy noises. Also used the vocoder.
Only compressed the drum.
Plate and spring reverbs used

Used my PC as a recorder playing each instrument in turn and using that 1 take to take me onwards...to who knows where with the next instrument.
Usually unlistenable to most.
But thats not why i do it.....bloody good job.

Dave will probably make out every word he spoke, but i like the fact it was a crappy recording...certain words poked out.
All i can say is life gets better Dave Very Happy
