I couldn't turn right

I was watching some videos I filmed last February and it reminded me of a crossing. I wanted to turn right from A36 to A27 at Whiteparish to enter a petrol station and waited for the signal, but I had no idea when I should turn right. It was a repeat of red light and blue arrow(go straight), and there wasn't blue arrow to turn right.
I didn't understand British signal rule well but when should I have turned right? Did I break the law?

I think you got caught out by an induction loop traffic light, in that the magnetic field of the body of a car or an old bike triggers the signal.

Riding an alloy bike it doesn't trigger the magnetic induction loop therefore the signal does not change.

My NTV, africa twin and XT never had this trouble as they are made from steel, my CBR which is alloy gets stuck all the time until I put a big rare earth magnet on the bottom of it. Though I haven't been out on the CBR in a while.

Ah there was such a mechanism! I was riding ER5.
There were two signals left one and right one, if the magnetic switch turns on, the right signal change to blue? Should I see the right signal when I'm on the right turn lane?

Induction loops are not usually there to activate the signal, that is usually a fixed timing/sequence. The loops are to let the signal system know that there are more cars than usual and extend an existing green time by a few extra seconds to help traffic flow.

In that video you actually jumped a redlight when you crossed the white line with the right turn signal showing red.

Some traffic lights I've come across do take a whole 5 minutes to change, although never at a junction that busy before. Were there any cars waiting behind you? If so, then I would say the traffic lights may have been broken. It is also possible that you are simply very impatient.

I have done the same thing..Common sense dictates that cycle after cycle of non-changeing lights=Wait until you slowly starve to death or go when its safe.

I'd have done the same. I always thought they were pressure sensitive so sometimes pull forward enough for a car to pull up to the white line behind me.

There is an industrial estate near me that doesn't pick up my bike ever, which is really annoying as there is a bank/cash machine there as well.
I can confirm that they are not noise activated either as I got bored and did a big burn out whilst waiting once

theres a couple near me, there a reet pain!
Either edge through or do a U-turn depending of traffic.


Somtimes flashing your lights works, but not on all.
oh, and jumping up and down on yer bike at the pressure pads doesnt work either.
