I might be being a bit slow here but whats your reason for post?

You'd rather not have the scanner because it doesn't work?
Secondly, why do you care?

There was an item on Radio 5 news last night (caught it driving to the gym).
The woman on there from Heathrow (and I think Manchester scanners are the same) said they just beep at random intervals and whoever's going through it at the time gets a full detailed search.

So sounds like to me they don't really work then if there's this random element.

A bit like the fake bomb detectors Confused Rolling Eyes

I imagine he posted it because its yet another invasion of privacy the government are bring in on a knee jerk reaction due to the detroit xmas bombing thing.

It's been said several time the scanner wouldn't have detected that bomb, yet Gordon Brown time and again has said as a reaction to that most recent plane bombing attempt; he's bringing in these scanners.

Thumbs Up

Because they don't work and cost about 3 million or so each of tax payers money , in that they beep randomly and the person gets frisked. So why bother spending 3 million on each one in the first place? , why not just have a gate which randomly goes beep which will cost ?5 from Maplins?.

Where does the other ?29999995 go?

Or just hire a couple of extra hands to do the frisking?.

I'm pretty darned sure the metal detectors at Manchester airport do not work, having been made to stand in me Y fronts in 2007, 2008 and 2009 I went through one with no metal on me at all and the darned thing still went beep, cue me yet again being in me boxers at the security gate.

Facebook is fast becoming an online angst-bank. If we're feeling bad or pissed off about something, it's fine, we can join a face book group and assuage our tortured souls...

Wink

PS: Imagine that as a job though, watching an endless stream of fat bastards in naked monochrome. Hell, I'd be wishing for a bomb to break the monotony. Surely the greatest temptation after seeing all those ugly wrinkly forms would be to let the bomb go in order to put all those tubby proles out of their misery. Wink

*Edit: The towel boy in my gym already has that job, and in glorious technicolour. The poor bastard, when my rakish form hoves, I mean glides into view it must be a welcome relief for him.

I can hear you snorting!

Laughing

You're telling me airport security made you strip down to your boxer shorts infront of everyone in the security line? I call bullshit. Yes the detectors arent very good, but i've actually been told they're only randomly turned on aswell they don't check everyone, still why make up a story about being made to strip off.

This youtube clip is also confusing, the image it shows on the computer is nothing like the images we've been shown (detailed outlines of peoples body). The one in that youtube clip looks like nothing more than a thermal scanner.

I'm assuming you get a "step this way sir" and forced"escorted" to a special search room covered by cameras and the like etc. Not a stripsearch in the line of passengers....

Think of the children!

Yes that's exactly what happens, but only if you refuse a pat down or they have reasonable suspicion that you're concealing something somewhere intimate.

Itchy said he was made to stand in his boxers at the security gate which is obviously never going to happen.

Maybe he's an exhibitionist and just flat out didn't mind. "Step this way sir..." "Actually, I'll do it here if it's easier... No really, I don't mind in the least... *Rubs thighs*"
