Trying to insure my bike, I've got a quote for ?113 which is pretty cheap.. thing is, it doesn't include to ride other bikes...

I am soon to be buying another road bike, ideally I'd have wanted both bikes on the same policy but struggling to find a policy that allows use on other bikes + multi bike etc without insuring both at once.

Should I go for the super cheap ?110 insurance for the off roader and then just get a new policy for the road bike including riding other bikes etc? then run both policies along side.. and next year then insure both bikes on one policy?

Cheapest quote inc other bikes for off roader is ?250.. compared to ?113 it's a big difference! There's no guarantee on if and when I'll even get the road bike either, I do plan to but I'm also buying a house so if something comes up sooner than expected I might have to forget the road bike. So far though I'm all set to go for the road bike.

If you get quotes through 'The bike insurer', they have a column listing riding other bikes. Remember to use fake details as they spam you.

Hmm just done that, they list two at ?150 with "ride other bikes" ticked.. and one at ?120 but even though it's ticked, I rang them earlier and they said no.

One of the ?150 ones is MCE insurance.. I'll ring them tomorrow to confirm they actually cover other bikes and that I'd be able to add another bike on soon.. oh and they offer breakdown recovery for ?15 which isnt too bad

I've had trouble with car comparison bikes not being accurate, but TBI's have been good for me so far.
Remember to look into exactly what the breakdown offers - some are pretty useless and more a way for them to make more money off you if you do have to use it.

if you own the other bike that won't have it's own insurance policy then it's very unlikely you will be abole to ride it under the "ride other bikes".

It needs to have it's own policy. This is to stop people buying a cg, insuring that and then riding their uninsured busa.

I've had a problem with this recently too. I have struggled to get a multi-bike policy, as the off-roaders are 'grey imports' and don't appear on the bike listings and so cannot be insured on these policies. I used Carole Nash for the roadbike last year and asked them to quote for the Serow - they told me it wouldn't be possible to insure it Fully Comp as apparently the only 'similar' bike was a WR250F - wanted hundreds of £ just for TPF&T!!

Went to Direct Choice in the end, as they were able to cope with the bike combination and were competitive on price.

Huh? that was never my intention anyway, I wanted to insure both my bikes but have a policy that allowed me to ride other peoples bikes... i.e mates bikes etc.

I got all that, WR426 and Africa Twin insured for £220 TPF&T with breakdown recovery and allowing to ride other bikes... MCE insurance Thumbs Up

For the future, I have two bikes on my policy with my offroader being an import. Admittedly it took a bit of time persuading them to accept that it was a real bike but we got there in the end Very Happy

My girlfriend has her Serow insured through the same company.

Very cheap too - my two bikes cost me £135, including Business use and TPO on any other bike..city address, 30 years old, two years ncb.

Bennetts would not insure my Husvarna TE610 because i do not have a brick garage. I tried Bikesure @ Adrian Flux and it was no problem. They were very cheap too.

I've got a multibike policy with Devitt, it also allows me to ride other peoples bikes. Their prices were quite reasonable only being beaten by E Bike, but as i already had single bike insurance with Devitt i would have had a penalty to cancel my insurance with them.
