Is there any software you can install on a Tomtom that allows you to use it as a speedo? I realise it shows your speed in the bottom right but I want BIG numbers. 0-60 or 1/4 mile timer would be good.

It would be nice if you could record your route and download it to google maps or similar.

Do you use and actual tomtom or a smart phone with TomTom on?

Either way unlike a garmin tomtom does not allow for the recording of useful info like top speed, average speed/time etc..

I did see a 3rd party app sometime ago, but i've never come across it again and have lost the link - sorry

It an in car tomtom, maybe a v4?

Anyway I found a program called tripmaster that does most of what I want. Definately works as a speedo and records trips. I'll give it a go later.

Do you really trust those figures though??

If you consider that its pretty much industry standard to have a physical acracy deficit of +/= 5meters (before considering other uncontrollable acracy issues, such as weather, clouds, noise, buildings, landscape etc which could add up to 30meters inaccuracy)

Here is the math:

--------------------------------------------------------
60mph =96.56kph

60mph over 60 second = 1609 meters per min (mpm)

60mph over 1 second = 26.82 meters per second (mps)
--------------------------------------------------------

So you take your 26.82 mps add 5 meters of unit over read = 31.82 mps

31.82 mps converts to 71.81mph when your are actually doing 60mph

You take your 26.82 mps, minus 5 meters of accuracy = 21.82mps

Gives you a reading speed of 48.81 mph @ 60mph of actual speed

Without considering unconrolable natural factors, gps are about 12% inaccurate at calculating speed, which is pretty much as inacurate as your speedo anyway.
