PostPosted: 19:00 - 05 Feb 2010    Post subject: A little story about a bike Reply with quote

Greetings and salutations my biking brethren.

I've had my xlr250 up for sale for a couple of weeks now. I took a call of a guy that sounded decidely neddish. Anyway, to cut my waffle short, he lived a couple of miles away in whitecraig and I suggested I'd meet him on the high street, outside the garages. I had the bird follow me in the car with the V5.

Pulled up, he came over, pulled an envelope out of his pocket and put it back in, as if he was looking for something. He asked the same questions that he did over the phone; that weren't really relevant to the bike. Example being: "how much is it for you to insure" - already asked me this twice! He also asked if it had upside down forks; now I don't want to appear to be a twat, but isn't it obvious when the gators are near the top? Anyway, might just be a newbie error.

So, he asks for a test ride and I say I want the money in my hand. He passes me said envelope from before - which coincidentally has ?700 written on it - it was all taped up. Straight after he handed me his cheque book - wtf - I assume this was some sort of Derren Brown mindtrick he was playing on me. I say: ' Not that I don't trust you (that's a lie) but I want to see the money.' he says: ' I'd want to do the same.' So I open it and there is just blank paper in there. I say ' where's the money?' He knocks me off the bike and starts to ride off. Good for me my missus used to be a sniper in the army, so she shot him in the neck with my trusty chinese air rifle, he lost control, careened through some plate glass windows and crashed, My missus runs over, gets him in a half nelson and she slides a knife between his ribs. As he is slowly dying his pals jump out! It's Raiden; Emperor Palpatine and Barack Obama!

I lie, he just said 'here's my cheque book still.' Anyway, after opening it to discover blank paper, I was thinking he might have more ned friends; as they do congregate in packs, so acting as If the test ride was still on, I say that I'm just turning the bike around, so I do that and just speed off.

I've told the popo and I've got his mobile number too.

The End.

Thats actually quite brave and stupid on the ned's behalf.

I'm positive my 125 was the victim of a similar type thing. Advertised for sale on gumtree, someone responds asking 'where are you?' Obviously you tell them... They don't turn up at the alloted time, but you get up one morning and find someone has tried to take it. Cut ignition cable, chains all removed.

A Russian guy on a big CBR type thing disturbed two guys trying to make of with it, he was a neighbour and let me know later in the day.

It really does ruin your trust in your fellow man.

Thumbs Up

I would just give someone the name of the town if they sent an email like that.

When I was trying to sell my scooter, someone arranged to view it but didn't turn up. I was very paranoid after it but luckily, nothing ever happened.

Good story! Surprised
When I do sell my bike I'll make sure for them not to come to my house.

A friend of mine had a similar trick pulled on him but the guy pulled out a wad of money, flicked the top of the pile with 4x £20 notes, the rest were printed 20s straight from a home printer so it looked like a pile of cash.

Took the bike (a 2002 R6) for a test ride and never came back.
