Hey people was wondering if I could ask for some help. i'm thinking of purchasing a bike but the guy i'm buying it from (person on another forum) seems a bit weird. I don't know if its me or there is actually something wrong here, so i would like your help at putting my mind at rest.

First of all this guy hes the 2nd owner on the bike and hes only had it for one month and he wants to sell it as he has had a car crash and will be in a cast for 8 or 12 weeks forgot what he said, but even if I were in a cast I still wouldn't sell my just bought bike.. would you?..thats his reason to sell it by the way.

The bikes 1st owner i know quite well and i know that when he sold the bike it was in mint condition.

Also he said he will meet me half way.. now since i'm new to this not sure if this is normal he is on the other side of London and i'm in the midlands its a 160 mile trek, for some reason in my mind this just adds the fire?...i'm not sure if i'm over reacting or just paranoid but would like some suggestions from yourselves.

Cheers people.

Sounds fairly straight forward to me. Living in London he's probably paranoid your out to nick his bike. If hes only had it a month and is plaster he probably hasn't had much chance to wreck it. You know the first owner, so talk to him he'll be able to give you an honest evaluation of the bike from when he sold it coz it won't bother them if you buy it or not.
If your in doubt HPI / AA check it. Thumbs Up

If I wasn't going to able to ride for 3 months, and I had a bike like that that will lose some value in 3 months and not benefit from standing, I'd sell it. Probably also not a great thing to come back onto if you've had zero movement in a limb for 3 months.

Sounds kosher, certainly cheap and the plate you could sell on for a chunk. If its HPI clear and not written off, its good.

Hi

3 months in plaster puts it towards the end of September before he can ride again. Pretty close to winter, and if he doesn't ride in winter then effectively it would be getting on for 9 months before he would ride it again.

All the best

Keith

If it's the one I think it is from R6messagenet then he says he's selling it coz he's broken his arm in a car crash and as he's self employed he can't afford to keep the bike.
Sounds kosher enough to me....

that plate is probably worth about as much as the bike. he asks for you to meet him halfway so if you turn out to be a time waister then you have both had a partially waisted journey. metting halfway normally disuades the piss takers

The bit I have a problem with is meeting half way. He might just not want a theif to know where he lives but its a common trick for a theif to use when selling a stolen bike.

Is this Al's old bike? If so, the seller has been registered on the R6 board for ages (although it only shows since May as the board was completely changed then and everyone lost their old IDs).
I really can't see he'd have been registered that long and posted so much just so he can sell a nicked bike!

Why not just see what an HPI check says?

give me the reg, if that is a fake one, and a fax number and i will hpi it and fax it over to you. As for selling it after a month you would be surprised how many people do this. There are various reasons and I have seen it so many times that I would not worry about it.

That's true I suppose but isn't it also a common way to sell a bike between 2 people who live some distance apart? I bought my bike from a guy in Yorkshire - I'm in Scotland - so we met half way at a service station.

Dont meet half way!

Youll show up to meet and three skinheads with baseball bats will ask you for the cash (which they know youll be carrying).

Meet him at his house, or not at all. Halfway is not a good idea.

Meeting halfway at a public place with CCTV should rule that out?
Or opposite a police station, just somewhere that will put such criminal masterminds off? Sad

It's only one pic out of 9, perhaps that's how it was when he got it or a wrongly uploaded picture. That picture looks like it a brand new bike too, it has a yellow line going round the tyre and it still seemingly has that 'showroom shine' to it...

Meeting halfway is a common thing to do, but as already said, make it somewhere very public and take a friend or two with you (bigger the better!) just incase - it doesn't sound dodgy though to me in all honesty!
