2004 R6

had a quick look on the forum for a review on one but could'nt see one.

looking at a new bike pref a sports one from my sv650s and came upon some and one i saw was a 2004 R6, with me not using a full sports bike before i have not a clue on them so are they worth touching or not.

Aye, they are alright. Not as hardcore as the 2004 ZX6R, or CBR600RR, but more focused than than GSXR600 of the time.

Right way up forks and conventional brakes mean it's not majorly blingy, but still up to the job. I believe Craig S had one briefly.

In short, if I were to buy a sports 600 which I wanted to use everyday, for a budget of under ?4k or so, I'd choose another pre-06 R6. In hindsight, it did everything I wanted it to, looked good, finished very well (better than the Hondas), reasonably frugal to run, a very smart all rounder.

Well I put a deposit on the r6 I have been looking at in the dealers near me 2004 model 7000 miles on it in red just hope the finance goes through ok.

I've got an 05 one (USD's & Radials) and it's been pretty solid, no complaints from me.

But I have only ever had one bike and I don't know anyone with a bike.

Which way around is upside down when your talking forks? On my bike the thicker part is at the top, shiny bit that goes inside at the bottom, is that normal way around or upside down?

i know it seemed a shame it does'nt have usd's but to be honest its my first real sports bike and every other bike i have had hasnt had them either a for nealry £500 more on a bike with more milage for the 05 model they had in there im not fussed aslong as it does the job ok

My god... people talk like RWU forks are terrible! Geez!

If people can get their knee down on a RD350 with a steel tubular frame and skinny 18 crossplies and RWU forks... does it matter?

Some of the best handling bikes around have RWU forks!! The TT600 and the Speed Four spring to mind as two I've owned for example.

USD Forks are all about fashion and nothing else. They might help shave two tenths on a WSB or motoGP circuit, but on the road they are about as relevant as wavey disks, radial master cylinders and quickshifters.

Nothing wrong with RWU forks - my bike has 'em and i certainly would never not buy a bike because of them.....

In my opinion they have their benefits - in the event of a front end crash its more likely they will bend, in turn more than likely saving the frame.
Also they are a bit easier to strip and rebuild than USD's. (Ok not by much, but every little counts eh..? )

I have a 03 R6 ... its the same as the 04 (ie: with non UD forks).
Solid bike.
And all the magazines that talk sense (Perf Bikes etc) say that its the best R6 of the lot.
Older one (silver framed) was too 'shakey' (poor handling and brakes)
New ones are too 'revvy' (great for the track, but no power low down and need to be revved like mad all the time).

03/04/05 Black framed one - stable handling ... solid engine ... and a nice load of usable low down torque (when compared to the new revvy 600's).

Will be considered an iconic bike in 25 years

You'll be fine mate, honestly.
You will find though (as opposed to the SV) that the more you rev it, the more power it makes.

Hey Kenny you got yourself a really nice bike there mate , have to admit I'm just a teeny bit jealous

As for upside down forks , they may make a difference to Rossi , but mere mortals like us will never be able to tell.

For most of us , if we want the bike to handle better , spending the money on some quality track race training will see vast improvements and the great thing is it'll work on your next bike too
