Toying with swapping my mates '99 hornet 600 front wheel for a 17" jobby.

Just after advice,

What remains the same? Discs/spindel/spacers/Mudguard etc.

What wheels fit and are they same shape.

I'm fairly sure they are a few of you on here that have done it.

Molly? Ham? Alun?

Ta

Chris

pre-2001 fireblade owners swap the front wheel for a 17" VFR750 (1994-1997) one which l think is a straight swap so it might work on the hornet.

I've fitted a mid 90's cbr600f (the three spoked one) 17" front wheel to mine, but I plan on fitting a cbr600f 5 spoked 17 incher to match the fireblade 17" inch 5 spoked I have on the rear.

The 3 spoked cbr600f front I picked up on ebay is EXACTLY the same as my original hornet 17" (I got a ding in it so had to be replaced for MOT).

VTR1000 fits but the discs are slightly different.

Get yourself on hornet's nest and read "Richard Pitman"s thread about his 17" swap.

I hope this helps.

P.s I still have my original 17" hornet wheel which you could have for postage. It'd be about £20. I'm only holding on to it as I'd rather give it to someone as opposed to skip it. As far as I know it's repairable and would cost you around £60 to get it done.

You could also pick it up for naff all if you're close enough.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the CBR600F 3 spoke, 5 spoke and the standard 17" hornet front wheels all use the same discs, spindle, spacers. Not sure if the 5 spoked cbr600f front uses the same bearings though.

I checked out that thread but that guy used a VTR wheel and changed the discs, changing the discs makes the project too expensive.

Right so if I buy a mid 90's 3 spoke CBR6 wheel it will bolt on using all the Hornet hardware. I can use the discs/mudgaurd/spindel/spacers from a Hornet.

If someone had confirm this I will be very pleased

Something like this?

Yer that wheel would definately fit Pretty damn positive anyway.

The discs would need to be from a 17" hornet wheel or the matching discs for the wheel. The 16" hornet discs will NOT fit the 17" wheel.

Where abouts are you? As I said, you could have my wheel for nothing aslong as you pick it up/pay for postage. You'd pay for a repair but that's it. I've found CBR 17" wheels tend to be cheaper than the equivalent hornet ones as they're a lot more popular. If you go 5 spoke though, that's when things get a little bit more expensive!

I got my current wheel for £65. I'd be willing to sell it for around the same price very soon if I get the 5 spoker I'm after.

I'm guessing thats without discs, can you also confirm the 17" will clear the mudgaurd.

I have a 99 Hornet but also have another set of newer Hornet wheels (for trackdays) with a 17" front and can confirm:

It'll clear the mudguard
You'll need the discs that go with the 17" wheel. From memory the diameter of the hole where it bolts to the wheel is larger by about an inch
The same spindle and spacers will work
