...do you shout it to all and sundry via email, text, phone calls and the like?

Myself, and my mates, we all like to keep it 100% undercover.

Me: I was expecting a mate over to go out for a blast, I said 'come on over, I'll be kitted up by the time you get here'. In my garage, warmed the bugger up, and waited with the door closed. When he arrived, I whanged the door up, he sees the new bike and I got a torrent of abuse....

Mate: I arrived unexpected at his gaff, his folks were there. 5 mins of chitchat, and off they go. Right, he says, I need to get my leathers on, you go get the bike outta the shed for me. I open the door, see a new bike and start calling him a cnut....

I did it when I bought my bike. Rang people and said I'll be round in a bit... Hadn't told them I'd done my bike test, let alone that I had a bike. Should've seen their faces when a big scary biker rolled up onto their driveway!

We happened to "stumble upon" a random 848, at which point I started waxing lyrical about them. Got my mates to offer their [positive] opinions on them and then hoped on and started her up. The looks on their faces was priceless... Cool

I've kept stum about getting new bikes so much now, my friends (and even my Dad) expects me to turn up on a new bike each time I see them.

Do the same at work too, usually turning up on different bikes through out the week. They probably think I do moonlighting at a dealers or something.

I hadn't told anyone at my work at the time I was doing my car test when I did (partly because I was expecting to be banned from a bike incident). So when I turned up in a car someone had obviously questioned my boss who then in a bit sus manner asked me how I'd got into work. The bloke on the desk was in the processes of learning to drive at the same time too, so it annoyed him I passed first Smile

i tell my mates, cos i drag them along with me to have a look at the bike in question (if its a used bike), 3 pair of eyes is better then one, plus they help me not buy the first bike i see lol
