I have recently bought a Yam XT125X [probably guessed from post name] and have very limited knowledge on bike mechanics and even less knowledge on the XT125X.
Problems are as follows;

1 - Starting is tempremental and the tick over is slightly off [carb needs looking at I believe] but after a bit of a slog the tick over can reach nearing 2000 :/

2 - Driving along today I noticed an intermitant 'eek' noises leading me to believe it may have something to do with the brakes?

ummm anthing else...

3 - Does anyone want to buy me a BSA??

Cheers for any help.

Dave

'eek' noises could be anything from brakes to a squeeky seat. try and find out when it does it and where it comes from. Warm the bike up fully (10 mile ride) and let go of the throttle with the bike parked up and not in gear. Rev's should be about 1000rpm. If they need adjusting there will be a knob on the side of the carb you can twist. If you can't see it, open and close the throttle whilst looking at the carb and you will see something moving with the throttle. the screw will be next to the moving bit Wink
Doing this will make it harder to start without choke so make sure your using it!

Eek noises is what i make when i work on one.
Choke can stick on these and the EEK noise possibly might be a warped disc or a brake that has seized.

I believe I need to; clean, replace, inspect my brakes.
I heard the noise again today I am not sure whether it is always there or just at certain times, I believe it to be something to do with something circular as it is paced along side speed, so warped disc is a posibility, not looked at the carb yet but that needs to be check I think I might also have water in there or something Very Happy oh joyous is the pleasure of biking.
Thanks for your help guys Very Happy much kudos

XT125s are a bit of a pain but tbh, with care and attention are a quality bike, granted most that i have worked on have been majorly neglected.
And problems, please feel free to message me. Thumbs Up Smile

She has now fully stopped working, after a spark plug and battery change... Time for the garage I think.
Wish me luck haha.

got timing sorted but the acceleration still seems to be delayed why could this be? is it just the bike is a little naff? my buddy has a peugeot 125 and it seems to have a little more pull more instantly and mine seems to take 1 / 1'5 seconds to kick in??

£30 to drain the carb, bit expensive aint it?

If your mates bike is a 2 stroke and yours a 4 stroke then yes his is actually more powerful. If you are getting a delay on throttle response its the ratio of fuel to air from the carb. find a manual and put all the settings to standard.

Timing? hold on a sec, did you take it to a yamaha dealer or a cowboy movie set? timing should never of been touched unless you where replacing the top end.

To set the timing up you need to take the timing covers off and line them up, as well as the head should it need re-aligning.

It was a "125 specialist" place I have no idea what they have done, I have the bike running and it is smoother than what it was previous although still needs a little tinkering, taking it to girlfriends uncles who has a lot of bikey things in his garage YEY TOYS and sorting it out there now.
Service soon aswell so that should help sort a few of these problems out. That will be a a yam dealership, I found one with a workshop Very Happy

*edit* The chain is also super slack so now have to find the correct sockets and such to sort that, oh this bike is FUNN FUNN FUNN
