Hi,

Im looking for some reviews or advice on motorcycle clothing, which brands are and arent worth bothering with etc.

Like most people, I don't want to buy clothing that wont protect me if the worst happens, but I don't have limitless funds!

Clothing to wear on a 400 sports bike for mainly summer/warm riding. It might rain, but I'm not planning a winter commute.

Any advice?

+1 on the Arlen Ness gear, it's all well made and looks cool

Get your arse down Hein Gericke, try it all on then buy it on the internet - saved myself £180 on my jacket doing that.

Their boots and gloves are pretty nifty too

Just as an observation, While I heartily agree with that, I do wonder how much longer Hein Gericke & the like will continue in buisness if we all do this.

I actually bought my leathers off fleabay, IXS immaculate for £80. Maybe an idea if you want to keep the costs down.

For £500, I would get a pair of Alpinestar/Sidi boots £150 a pair of Draggin jeans £100 a pair of bargin bin £25 sports gloves and a leather jacket Alpinestar or Arlene Ness £225 or something or equal quality If you make sure the Jacket is part of a 2 peice set you can buy the leather trouser at a later date when you have more cash.

Ive already been looking at the ebay idea, but with so many thousand items I needed brands to search for!

I'll have to get down to a shop and try on some of the gear for fit.

Ive been warned off the draggin jeans by a mate, what are the BCF experiences of them?

Cheers for the replies so far!

I think they are brilliant, perfect balance of comfort price and protection.

I would avoid ebay for bike gear you really should try it on first.

I would also try on, especially for a first-timer. Fit is all-important, and each cut really is different! My tactic is try on - then check to see how much cheaper i could get it online, and then go back to the shop and buy unless there's a huge difference in price (i want the shop to still be there, but i don't feel like i should pay a huge premium to it).

I'm uncertain as to what is best; the options are textiles (more practical, breathable waterproof in most cases), leathers (look better, better abrasion resistance) and then things like "Draggin" (or in my case, better quality "Hood") jeans and/or body armour. Ideally you'll have quality everything and wear what you fancy, but that's not a great way to spend a limited budget.
