"New research from Mintel predicts that sales of new motorcycles and scooters will rise strongly over the next five years. With the market benefiting from an increasing number of older returner bikers seeking to rediscover their youth, plus a significant number of younger people looking to own a motorcycle or scooter for the first time."

I bet they asked 100 people. Or maybe they can see the future Rolling Eyes

Scooters will definately rise... Motorbikes, not as much.

People are put off by the test.

As above post, where did you get the info? Thumbs Up

Well I just convinced my brother to buy a bike, and he has and has started commuting on it for the first time this week. For him, it has ended up being a lot cheaper than trying to buy another car.

So within my sample, it appears bike sales must be up by 100%

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

I'm so out of touch with the rules for learners nowadays, but can't you ride a moped/scooter/50cc thingy on a full car licence without a CBT?

If that's right, then scooters are bound to seel well for commuters with the cost of fuel rising again.

Only if your licence is from before sometime in the 90's. Even then, CBT is recommended.

The cost of fuel rises every year, and then falls again. No way will people be buying scooters because of fuel prices. Not at the moment anyway.

Aren't there 2-3 million people with Motorcycle licences that currently do not ride? The manufacturers are supposed to be doing a large push to target these people - so i've heard.
