When i did my test on thursday i was talking to a trainer and apparently they are changing the entire test regulations in 2012

at 16 you can ride a 50cc
at 17 you can ride a 125cc but if you pass your test on this you can only ride a 125cc max
at 18 you can ride a 250cc once you passed a test on a 250cc but can only stay on a 250cc
at 19 you can ride whatever you want but it has to be restricted to 33hp for a couple of years

and the age where you can do the test a straight off and ride whatever you want is to be raised to 24yrs old.

im not entirely sure on these figures but i'd like to know what every one thinks.
It seems to me they are making it harder and harder for people to ride bikes.

I can remember talking to my instructor when I was doing my training and he had heard that they wanted to bring it in so that more people are on a restricted licence. But raising the, Im guessing, DAS to 24 is a bit of a random age. lol.

Its a good idea to bring in the 250cc category, but I wonder how the testing system will be eg cbt stays the same but have to renew each time your a year older maybe.

I believe it's to bring European licences in line, mostly to stop lorry driver fraud.

Another reason we should be out of the EU.

Jesus, they might as well make the group in favour of banning bikes all together. Rolling Eyes

Fuck the online petition lets have a massive protest rally against the new and even worse test.

I hate the man telling us what we can and can't do.
We are living in a nanny state.
When will the UK stop taking it up the arse from the EU?
If the government can keep the pound and stay with the imperial system for road signs why can't they fight and stop pitiful laws from coming into place?

Mad

Unfortunately I'm not the best at organising things.
We could form a small group and organise it together.
So what do you say?

At the very least I'll be there at the protest if there is one.

You do know that retaining imperial measurements is damaging Britain, right?

I do now.

To be honest it just sounds like the DSA are trying to make as much money as possible from the biking community and try to eliminate motorbikes from the roads completely :/

Then you've just proved yourself wrong as it has something to do with the DSA. Sorry for not being a nerd and actually reading who decided to implement the laws but its the DSA who are enforcing them and who get the money from the tests.

But the DSA have no say in what is contained in the test (well, there is some discretion but not much). They do not tell the EU directive what to do. They did not decide to change the test. Therefore the motivation for changing the test cannot be pinned on 'the damn DSA trying to make money'.

The DSA must implement the directive, they do not design it.

I see you managed to insult ulthar for being helpful and knowing more than you.

I didn't intend to insult anyone, was just giving him my opinion like he gave me his, and that was my opinion but I hadn't read much into it.
