How many people on the forum know, are friends with, or an acquaintance of, somebody famous?

I doubt anybody here will know him, but I work in the same field as a guy called Professor Sir Paul Nurse. Used to be head of the Cancer Research charity, now President of the Rockefeller Institute in New York. He won the Nobel prize for Medicine in 2001, and is often on TV talking about science stuff.

We went out for dinner a couple of months ago with a few others after a meeting and talked about how he spent his Nobel prize money on a new motorbike, then got into an interesting discussion as to whether my home town was rubbish or not. Laughing

I've met most of the late '90's Stoke City team (wow!)

Erm...oh, David Beckham stopped for me to cross the road Very Happy (it was a pedestrian crossing but I'm sure he would have stopped even if it was a pelican crossing!)

Other than that, I've been out in Manchester a couple of times with Rose Quay (Finley Quay's cousin) who is a professional saxaphone player...

Grasping at straws now... Rolling Eyes

Went to the same school as Ian McKellen (though many years later).

Have since met him on a couple of occasions - wouldn't claim to really know him though.

I don't know anyone famous, although I've met quite a few F1 drivers, and I've kart raced with David Coulthard (not competitively, it was a fan club thing in the days when he organised such things...) I crashed into him actually.. it was rather embarrassing but hey, it also made him remember me when I bumped into him in Montreal months later! Laughing

Jane Omorogbe (Rio in Gladiators) who presents Pitstop on Men and Motors as well as a number of Channel 4 and 5 motoring programmes and was in Gladiator the movie with Russell Crowe is a riding buddy of mine, boy can she ride her new Blade (she was pretty cool on the thunderace as well).

Used to get a Christmas card from Barry Sheene every year until sadly his illness caught up with him, I have had tea with the Queen Mum in her private quarters at Windsor, met most of the Royal Family more times than I care to remember, even had a bollocking off the Queen (but thats another story), went to a New Years eve party at Roger Moore's house, Graham Rogers who presents Classic Gold FM and is the voice of ITV 1 on the programme link is a very good friend.

George Harrison was one of my customers, as was James Cracknell
and Mathew Pincent the Olympic rowers, James has an old GSXR1100 and mathew had a 600 Bandit but now has a Triumph.

As a kid, I lost John Lennons dog during Cub Scout bob a job when me and my mate were asked to return it to his home when he lived in St Georges Hill in Weybridge, (made the headlines of the national papers) and I used to regulary visit Charlie Drakes house, Eric Sykes, Dick Emery and Englebert Humperdink as they were big buddies with my father.

The best childhood memory, is that one of my school friends father was the creator and voice ofr Basil Brush (the original) and whenever we had a birthday party, Jonathan would get his dad to turn up and we would have our own private Basil Brush show, that was cool! Cool

I have lost count of the celebrities I have met or known, but it would take forever to go through the list, and I am sure you don't want to know how I managed to get a signed Brazillian no 10 Pele shirt from the great man himself! Cool

I got a christmas card from Harry Secombe once. Cool

Meet lots of muso types cos of work - the Maiden boys obviously, Dave Mustaine, Rob Halford, Marilyn Manson, Lemmy (he don't dance Laughing ), Mick Jagger, Morrissey, Lee Perry... couldn't list them all cos my memory's crap and it's not really a big deal when you work for a record company.

Met Jimmy Page on the stairs at the office during a powercut - he was rehearsing for an Albert Hall gig with The Who, Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller. After about 30 mins of the power not coming back on, Paul Weller decided to entertain us all with an impromptu acoustic gig in the bar. Cool

Oh, and I got kissed by Gianni Morbidelli at the F1 a few years ago when I got him to sign my Italian flag.

Talk of PRs has just reminded me that I once spoke to Tom Cruise's PR on the phone - but unfortunately he'd called the wrong number...

Possibly worth making that point that any real friends of currently famous famous celebs wouldn't make it public here cos it would be a betrayal of that friendship...

Noel Edmonds came to my school once, he only lives about 4 miles away from my house, and he actaully lives in the house they used for the fly by shot of Crinkly Bottom in Noels House party. Even though he lived so close he still *had* to turn up in a bloody great helicopter and land it in the school field Rolling Eyes . Some people and their egos! To be honest none of the kids were that impressed with Noel and were too busy staring at the helicopter, which is why I think he didn't stay long Laughing . Other than that Ive only met a local televison presenter (Judy Spires) and my Mum once recieved a card from Pete Waterman (from Pop idol Embarassed ).

Know quite a few racers due to one of my jobs, Dan Harris (ex bsb, wsbk etc.) Rob Hoyles, Adam Child, etc. who are semi-famous. Also Frosty, Emmett, and know Neil Hodgsons boss quite well, well, his 'right-hand man'.

Went to college with a few people who now play sports professionally in Football and Rugby, haven't heard from them in years though.

I have shook hands with Ainsley Harriot and spoke to Delia Smith.

Saw Jamie Oliver at a show as well.

I saw Craig Charles (Ex-presenter or Robot wars and current presenter of Takeshi's castle) in the local chippy.

Spoke to the Countess of Wessex a couple of weeks ago when she opened our refurbished town hall. Smile
