Right, I know there are a few Londoners on here as well as a few bike couriers and other people who drive / ride rough North London, so I was wondering if you could help me with this:

Every time I drive into or out on the A1 (Hendon, Highgate etc) I see at least 1 orthodox Jew driving the same kind of car. It's always a people carrier (of the type below), always at least 10 years old. In fact, I'd go as far to say the only time I see an orthodow Jew driving a car it's one of these:

https://www.autoplenum.de/Bilder/P/p0001738/MITSUBISHI/MITSUBISHI-Space-Wagon-2000-GLXi--1995-1998-.jpg

https://www.autoplenum.de/Bilder/P/p0008268/MITSUBISHI/MITSUBISHI-Space-Wagon-2000-GLXi--1995-1998-.jpg

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/46/1992_chariot.jpg

Occasionally it's a non-Mitsubishi, but it never deviates from this style.

For sure, they're practical for ferrying around the family to and from the Synagogue etc, but there are other cars that can do this just as well.

What's going on here? What course of events leads to a group of people having exactly the same time of car? Did one Jew just start it all of by buying one out of practicality, then all the others just followed suit?

I though it might have something to do with with not being allowed to drive on Shabbat, and there was some modification you can make to this particular type of car, but surely you could do that to any car?

Anyway, it's intriguing. If anyone can can shed some light on this, or even confirm that they've seen the same thing and it's not just some massive co-incidence that I see them all the time.

Confused How did that thought crop up, a car is a car..

It's probably the only one they can sit in without removing their silly hats. It's not something I've thought about but I do definately remember seeing them all sat in MPVs when I used to be driving around london most days, London being the only place I ever see Orthodox Jews.

Something to do with 'not lighting a fire' or using 'automated equipment' on Shabbat. Thought there might have been some bolt-on-modification that gets round it (you know something obscure that means the spark plugs are turned on manually or something so it doesn't count as automatic) and this obscure Israeli company only makes them for the Mitsubishi. I don't know, they're a crazy old bunch.

Most plausible explanation so far. Plenty of other cars with sufficient hat room though surely?

Maybe its because they are cheap cars and Jews are very tight with money?

They're Jews so use all your racist stereotypes to come up with an answer as to why they all drive the same type of cars.

https://www.jrbooksonline.com/jew-bwa-ha-ha.gif

If their numbers are increasing you should probably start selling second hand cars so that you can profit from their jew gold as they buy old cheap cars.

But, their numbers increasing could mean London is being taken over by a whole army of killer JewBots. For that reason, I suggest nuking them.

^ Meh, chill out. It's just an observation. Also, it's funny (and efficient) to use generalisations.

Using generalisations can't be right though.

It's like saying BMWs are ridden by people with beards, power ranger wannabees ride GSXRs, peds are ridden by chavs and that...

The Toyota Yaris is the car of choice for people in Sunderland that are from pakistan. The richer ones all drive BMW's. For some strange reason though there are a fair few older shape Renault Clio's, all different colours but all have a huge Ahmed sticker on the back window.

Why?? I don't know, or care.

The Jew thing. It's probablys because the car has absolutely nothing to do with Germany or Austria and therefore is patriotic or something.

Mebbe they need it to fit the surfboards on the top.

NB: this is actually an extremely cool and witty band called Meshuggah Beach Party - their version of Hava Nagila crossed with Misirlou is quite quite brilliant, makes me dance like a spaz.

Maybe the trendiest orthodox jew (the Brangolina of the orthodox world shall we say) bought one of those people carrier things and all the others thought, 'bangin' man, we'll have one too.'

If not that, then Jesus probably had one.

Thumbs Up

They're less likely to be car jacked driving that whilst the car is full of gold and diamonds than they are driving round in their normal Bentley, Mercs, Astons etc...

I used to do a "jew area" on the scrap, was Cheetham hill way if memory serves.

They all had Volvos round there, was weird. Maybe they just want affordable reliability being tight bastards, different social circles thinking different things are best?

Who knows what's shit and what's shit hot down the incineratorgog?

I live in the heart of the world of Mitsubishis & Toyota Previas, with the biggest ultra-orthodox synagogue a 5 minute walk away. They are popular because they can get their 7 (or 8 kids) in there. Before it used to be a bit of a squeeze in the Volvo. Also they have high roofs so they can wear their large fedora hats. There is a dealer in Stoke Newington that buys & sells amongst the Jewish community.

Unfortunately their driving skills are appalling. Just as there is a law concerning using mobiles while driving there should be one that bans drivers from praying silently while driving oh and driving with your eyes shut or without your prescription glasses!

An orthodox Jew does not drive on the Shabbat whatever car he has, unless he has special dispensation from the rabbi which is usually only given in emergencies (preganancy, illness etc.). You can't phone the rabbi but have to walk round to his house to ask him - but if he's praying have to wait till he's finished to ask him.

I live in Golders Green a 'jewish area' and my neighbour has one of those cars Laughing

I also agree on the bad driving skills. Lots of double parking, stopping for no reason, talking to a pedestrian whilst driving, etc. I have to be on high alert when riding even my own Jewish neighbour told me they are crap drivers Laughing

Saturdays are awesome though as they're not allowed to drive! It's like a ghost town Cool
