Getting sick of E-bay!

Ok folks, I sold an item on the bay. Put up a very accurate description and it sold for a decent amount. I've just had an e-mail from the buyer saying they didn't read the description properly and would like to return it. I sold it with free delivery, which cost me £12. Now if I let this person return it, I will have to pay the ebay fees again (even if I second chance it) and pay another £12 to ship it out again. The listing said I don't accept returns.

The question is; do I do the christian thing, accept this person made a mistake and mess around trying to sell it again? or do I just tell them that everything was done thoroughly my end and advise them to read listings properly next time?

I'm pretty sure Paypal won't do anything because it was the buyers mistake & everything was listed correctly. Even if they tried to get a refund through Paypal, there's no option for "I misread the listing" so it's down to the seller if he wants to give a refund or not.

If he lies and said it was damaged in transit or something then you have proof that he wrote to you admitting he read it wrong.

In fact, the worst one I ever had didn't even have to return the goods.

Some Eastern European lady ordered £150 worth of Volvo brake pads and discs. We sent them out, she received them the next day.

Two weeks later Paypal took the money out of our account and said it was an unauthorised transaction, straight out the blue. I telephoned the customer and she said she could no longer afford them, so she had told Paypal her account had been hacked.

I got the money back in the end by sending her a court summons, at which point she found the money and paid with her debit card.

Paypal are right at the top of my most hated companies, scheming twats. Can't be arsed to go into the story but they tried to rip me off me £8k, and it cost me thousands in lost revenue trying to get it back.

How your able to put no returns on an item i don't know.... is it not the case you can return any items under distance selling ...

Anyway, charge him the insertion and postage fees .. claim back final fee from ebay (if thats possible)

If you would rather pay him later, then let him paypal dispute .. takes ages ...

Normally I am a reasonable person and would do everything I could to help out a fellow man... I feel sorry for them, but at the moment my 3 month old little one is teething, my wife isn't very well, I'm working overtime to cover the costs of going to uni in september and we're packing ready to move shortly. I really could do without the hassle!

It seems that ebay is becoming more and more hassle as time goes on. It's getting harder and harder to find proper bargains. I reckon at least 75% of the crap on there is buy it nows from some dodgy living room "business". Despite losing 4% of all money sent through paypal, every seller I know on e-bay has had someone buy their stuff from a duff account and paypal took the money from the seller... I though the whole point of the 4% fee was to protect us innocent folk!?!

I reckon it's time I went back to the good old classifieds in the local paper... Just like when I were a lad.

Paypal may rule on his behalf, but he still has to send it back recorded and provide paypal with proof of delivery and tracking number. It's a right hassle doing returns on low value goods.

Wait and see if he does a paypal claim, otherwise just sit back and relax.

As Monkeypie said, just get the postage costs but also get the costs it'll cost to list on ebay again. They can't argue with that seeing as it was their mistake.
