Went into Heine and Gericke the other day to get some ear plugs and the guy at the counter tried to sell me the ones in the picture below.

Just wondering if anyone has used any similar to this on long rides or tours and how did they hold up?

I've always found it a pain when touring to pop to pharmacies to pick up more disposable plugs. I like the look of these, but with that little stem attached, i'm not sure they'd be comfortable with my Autocom speakers in.

ive not tried those ones but i have used these
https://www.allearplugs.com/AEP6/Ear-Seals-Earplugs-(1-pair).htm

for a few years now and would reccomend them. i find them comfortable and run them in hot water to clean them as they are rubber. decide yourself when to replace them.

I have some ear plugs similar to the MotoSafe ones. Can't say that I've used them extensively, or for long distance touring, but I can confirm that for me they are VERY comfortable Thumbs Up

I use the ones I get for free from friends who work in places that supply them. Smile

I had those ones but have moved on to equinore custom moulded ones. The problem was not with the plugs but rather my ears. My right ear has a short narrow canal so I found that the plug kept coming out. The left one was great however.

I ride a CBF1000 which is renowned for wind noise and couldn't have ridden without them. The wife now uses them and finds them perfect for her. They are easy to put in and out and cut out the wind noise beautifully whilst still allowing you to hear what's going on around.

We use Autocoms in our lids and have never had a problem with the little stem. It doesn't actually stick out past your ear but gives you something to grab in order to remove them. If you compared the length of them to a disposable plug you would see that they are about the same, if not a shade shorted, so the stem doesn't stick out any further than a normal plug would.

I brought a box of 200 plug's off of e bay ... For about £15 ... Work that out your self how much each they are ... Lube up your ear with a bit of Vaseline ... And they slip in a smooth as silk ... On long trip's pack a few away in the back pack ... Soap and water will bring them back not to new ... But to a state where you can keep on using them ... Well worth the first out lay ... Never have to buy a plug again ...

I've used ones of that style quite a lot, but usually for sleeping, not riding. Used the same set over the last four years or so.
Not sure they're much longer in total than standard foam ones, so you'll probably be ok.

As for the one's that are made to fit your ear and cost an arm and a leg ... Simple tip ... get a small button and a piece of thread ... Now go buy a tube of painter's cork ( it's spelt different to that but sound's the same ) Put a little bit of cotton wool in your ear canal ... get some one to squirt a bit of the filler in your ear ... Push in button with thread hanging out ... Fill up the gap left ... Wait a while to let it set ... Pull out plug with thread attached to button ... made to measure plug's for penny's ...

Irritating the fcuk out your ear canal would be cool. Smile

Used lots of different ones over the year... but recently got a set of custom ones from Ultimate Ears.. took a couple of trips to get used to them , but they do the biz.

I used to go through two bulk packs of the Motrax ones a year, as I am an all year round rider... so these will pay for them selves in two years.

Two companies ...

Ultimate Ears specialise in noise reducing ear phones for music play back - my in ear monitors from them cost a LOT!

Ultimate Ear specialise in hearing protection. My squidgy ear plugs cost about £65 with postage at the NEC Bike show. A years supply of Motrax ear plugs, which I find the most comfortable, costs £32 ish... so far the custom plugs have survived gentle washing and show no signs of wear. Done quite a few miles in them since November.

Should add that my partner has a set and she has had three years wear out of hers with no issues and still doing their job.

I find if anything the custom made ones aren't quite as good at reducing noise as foam ones, however they are more comfortable to wear for long periods, day on day, etc.
