Roadside finger print reader

Just got half an eye on one of those smug cop programmes. The whole thing has been about a massive ANPR drag net. But the copper has just pulled out a fingerprint reader that confirms an ID. I didnt know they had these... where will it end

I just watched it. Considering how many people were part of the operation, it was all a big waste of time as they never really caught any serious criminals.

As someone with no criminal record I can't honestly say I'm too bothered. Not yet anyway.

It's true, as soon as you're arrested you have a criminal record and they're entitled to take and retain finger prints, no matter if the arrest turns out to be false or not the record of it remains on a file all about you and comes up on CRB checks if deemed relevant.

There was a good quote from one of the rozzers after receiving the results of a fingerprint scan: "Well that's confirmed that the fingerprints are his".

You don't say!

There was also a good example of how easily you avoid punishment if you don't play by the rules. They couldn't figure out who that 'Cornelius' bloke was and knew that prosecuting him would be tricky, so he ended up just getting a taxi and having a mate pick up his van the next day. Other drivers that had committed an identical crime (no insurance) had their cars seized.

I've seen them use the finger print thing on tv before, it was some illegal immigrants and he was lieing about who he was so they matched his prints and he was rogered.

Another one I noted recently: some of that anti-camera spray stuff does actually work. The cops noticed (possibly due to on board ANPR, I wasn't paying much attention) a number plate that the video guy's camera also couldn't pick up well (almost looked like they'd fuzzed it out, but apparantly they hadn't), yet they could see it fine by eye.
