PostPosted: 19:29 - 13 Feb 2010    Post subject: Bloody White Van Man... Reply with quote

Wednesday afternoon 1pm bright sunny day i decided to take advantage of the dry roads while i had the chance, i was heading down the road passing a police station and a waiting police car so i slowed down as you do and then i approached a set of traffic lights but proceeded as they were green when i see a white van waiting to turn right facing oncoming traffic (ME) so in cautious mode i pass with well caution but as im about two metres from passing him , the van driver turns and i have no time to react and collide at about 25mph with his front near side im thrown off my bike and land on the path i dont remember hitting him or landing on the ground but when i opened my eyes i was facing the wall and could hear people telling me to stay still and luckily for me the police were then in seconds and helped the paramedics get me onto the spinal board and then i was taken to hospital for x-rays which revealed i had a fractured ankle and id torn some ligaments too, so i got off pretty lightly and my sidi's are still in good condition since one was crushed in between the van and my bike. My whiplash is getting better and the odd cuts and bruises are healing nicely but i remain on crutches for 2 weeks stuck indoors as i cannot work and the staircase seems like an obstical from gladiators. The van drivers excuse was that he didnt see me...now that confuses me as id like to know where he usually looks when hes turning down a side road crossing over the path of oncoming traffic ...But after £160 charge to get my bike back here is what she looks like now and some of my foot and the accident Stay safe Thumbs Up

This would have been his view , would have been about the same level of visibility , it just annoys me the more i seem to uncover ...like theres no excuse as to why he did not see me except pure stupidity and carelessness ...

Glad you're OK. The same thing happened to me in the company car last month, only it was some blond bimbo with her sister in a Micra that pulled across me.

It wrote the car off too Evil or Very Mad

It is incredible how he managed to avoid seeing you, probably on his mobile or something!! At least you shouldn't have trouble on the insurance front, and bloody lucky you avoiding any further injuries from the wall or railings - that alomst looks like a bobsleigh moment!! Shocked

Very impressed with the diagrams I have to say, proper paint job that is! Laughing Thumbs Up

Glad to hear you got away with minor injuries, that could have been a whole lot worse. But your ankle looks like a balloon animal!

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Well im back from hospital im gonna be off for 6-8 weeks cause apparently in the first 2 X-rays i had they miss diagnosed my injuries so after a further 2 X-rays today the verdict is that ive actually broken my little toe in two places and the toe next to it in one place but still have the torn ligaments ... dunno how they missed it the first time and magically saw a fractured ankle Confused makes me wonder if the miss diagnosed the first X-ray i ever had when i was 5 and fell out of the loft onto my head when they said '' there dosn't seem to be any damage to the brain'' Shocked

Anyway gotta go eat a crayon ride safe Thumbs Up Very Happy
