Any guitarists?

Hi all. I've recently been learning to play Tears in the rain https://www.youtube.com/user/JustinSandercoeSongs#p/u/85/2xAoG4TcMnQ but by god is painful on your fingers. Just wondering what peeps are learning at the mo & any tips for playing stuff like this?

Yep, loads of guitarists on here. I've been playing for about 15 years, mainly metal and rock. But lately i've been learning a lot of Johnny Cash.

As regards your fingers, just keep playing, the tips will harden up over time

I've been playing on/off for 17yrs but not really attempted this kind of style before. It's good practising picking with all fingers though.

Currently relearning Metallicas 'Blackened', particularly the solo parts, as well as '...And justice for all'.

Have had a blast at All That Remains' 'Chiron' but I get lost midway through, fuckers are pretty fast.

If you're learning Blackened from the cherry lane book, just be aware the tab for that song isn't how Hetfield plays it.

Have you noticed yet when playing stuff form Ride The Lightening it doesn't quite sound right when you jam with the CD?

Im using about 6 different versions of Guitar Pro tabs, taking the bits which I feel sound right out of each one and excluding the rest.

I do have the Cherry Lane book mind, but I find Guitar Pro has the advantage of giving me an idea about timing, its helped me clear up some riffs that I couldn't grasp loads of times. I remember reading somewhere before that the "...And justice for all" tab book was especially error riddled, as were some versions of "The Black Album".

I'm led to believe that the black album tabs won't sound right because they tune to 450hz instead of the standard 440hz, much like the Machine Head song "Halo" is done in drop B tuning, except at 450hz, much to everyones annoyance and it pretty much means you have to have a guitar dedicated to that tuning to avoid farking around re-tuning all the time. Whether this is the same for any other metallica songs or albums I dunno.

+1 for Guitar Pro, it really helps me out with timing too.

Just lately i've been picking up my acoustic a lot more than my electrics, as soon as funds allow i'm going to get myself a nice new spangly acoustic

I live on my 7 string pretty much constant!
all that remains are pretty quick, fall of ideals is a better album to learn

But yeah, been playing since i was about 7/8 so about 10 years, but meh, i'm a pianist, not a guitarist.

Like has been said, the fingers get harder the more you play.... or you can cheat and use some surgical spirit
