Im in dire need of a new mobile, and i was looking at the tocco lite but seems they wont be anygood to me.
I want an iphone but cant find one cheap enough. I've had a bumble around but i'm unsure, seeing as we have residents here who have had or lost... Laughing them i'd ask, is it worth it?

As mentioned above, 5800s are a good budget bet, cheap and whilst they are not as slick as an iPhone, they are every bit it's equal in terms of functionality and only really fall down on games. Plus being an older phone it's less likely to be a contract swindle.

You can get some highly specced HTCs for chump change too, we sold a Touch HD with a rather slick custom 6.5 rom on it for a measly 100 quid a few weeks ago.

The Toshiba TG01 is cheap as chips for the spec, but don't be tempted till someone manages to get a bootloader running on it, even with the latest official firmware it's still only any use as a PMP with a net connection.

Cheap N97s are often worth a go too, Nokia have done a recall of mildly defective camera covers that scar the lens over time, some of them also have very weak GPS reception. Find an N97 with both, take it to your local Nokia service centre clearly explaining both issues and you'll generally get a replacement handset in return a week or two later. Keep in mind it'll have the same IMEI as the handset you gave in though, if it's associated with a disputed contract it'll still get barred eitherway.

Ignore this, They are shit, I put up with mine for 6 month before succuming and buying an iPhone, it is infinately better.

I recently gave my old old N95 8gb to my dad, I set it up for him installed the updates and put some software on it. It was far better to use than the buggy as hell N97, the only good thing about it is the keyboard other than that it can go fuck it's self.

On a side note I'm selling an N97 unlocked loads of extras £200 Laughing

Edit, my N97 has just had loads of bits replaced under warranty including the camera lense call making/recieving chip and gps unit.

Shit is hardly fair from my experience with em, just got keep on top of firmware updates and that treacherously small internal disk space. Fill up the C drive (easily done if you get sent a lot of stuff through bluetooth or installing all the stupid rubbish they offer through the software update app) and it'll start bombing apps in short order.

It definitely isn't the iPhone killer it was hyped up to be, but it's a nice cheap alternative that like the 5800 has a couple of really quite nice ace cards up it's sleeve.

+1 This

I'm on my 2nd N97 6 months into my 24 month contract and now one of the speakers has packed in so it's now uber quiet and I often miss calls if I'm outside!

Add to that the terrible wi-fi that constantly drops a signal coming from a router no more that 13ft away, the touch screen that periodically becomes non-responsive and terrible GPS and you have a phone that can give you ulcer inducing stress levels not too dissimilar to those experienced by Abu Hamza trying to assemble flat pack furniture.

Avoid this phone at all costs.

Seb I kept upto date with firmware and everything was installed to the mass memory, the N97 is a great phone on paper, shame it doesn't work. By the sounds of your posts you work with phones. Try living with a N97, I have no reason to exaggerate I waited especially for this phone. My N95 was honestly a better phone than the N97. Think how bad a phone has to be for me to spend a lot of many buying another one when the phone has been out what? 6 months.

This phone would crash at least twice a day I have had my iphone 3 weeks not crash once.

The thing that finally got to me was when It took me about 10 minutes and 2 crashes to make a phone call, I thought if I was ever in an emergency I need a phone that can actually make calls.

It's what I use at the moment and mines been good as gold, mind you mine hasn't had the lens scratch issue either so I've certainly been lucky with it. I restart it once a week or so to keep things running speedy but crashes have been super rare for me (Although it was rather prone to screen freezes when answering calls with the original release firmware).

Your right about the iPhone being leagues ahead when it comes to usability though. If Apple came out with one that copied the N97's ergonomics I'd snap it up in the blink of an eye Thumbs Up

As long as you don't download any 'Memory freeing' apps then you won't experience any 'freezes'
I was having problems with my iPhone freezing even after I reloaded (Because the first app I loaded was the memory freeing type) It also caused problems with my bluetooth connecting to my van. Anyway, Crack your iPhone properly, Only download recommended apps (Read the comments before you download) and you will appreciate the value as I do. Thumbs Up
